Cleaning Indoor Air

It is a major concern that the air inside many homes is more polluted than the air outside. Everything from walls, to pets, to appliances, to carpets, to paint and cleaning products contribute to indoor air pollution.  Newer homes are built so tight that they tend to trap unhealthy air inside.  Please click on the links below for more information.

NPR recently aired an informative two part series on the subject of indoor air quality.  Click on the link below to read more and listen to the series.

tips for cleaning up indoor air

  • Source Control - For most indoor air quality problems, source control is the most effective solution.  Sources that contain asbestos can be sealed or enclosed and appliances like gas stoves can be adjusted to decrease the amount of emissions.

  • Ventilation Improvements - Another effective approach to lowering indoor air pollutants in your home is to increase the amount of outdoor air coming indoors.  Most home heating and cooling systems do not bring fresh air into the house.  Be careful not to open doors and windows during windy days or when airborne pollen levels are high.

  • Air Purification - We offer a wide range of HEPA air purifiers that are designed to effectively remove airborne particulates and gaseous pollutants.  According to the EPA, the effectiveness of an air purifier depends on how well it collects pollutants from indoor air and how much air it draws through the cleaning
or filtering element.  The long-term performance of any air cleaner depends on maintaining it according
    to the manufacturer's directions.
