the importance of breathing clean air

We all are becoming more aware of the negative impact of “dirty air” on our health. Air Pollution not only triggers allergy and asthma attacks but can cause serious problems for people with heart, lung, and many other medical conditions. A HEPA filter is an efficient air cleaning medium. HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Arresting which simply stated means highly efficient in capturing particulates. How efficient? A HEPA filter is 99.97% effective at filtering particles as small as 0.3 microns. . Particulates this size are invisible to the naked eye but can be harmful when inhaled. Common allergens that fall into this category include:

pet allergens 0.3 - 100 microns
dust mite allergens 10 - 40 microns
pollens 10 - 100 microns
plant spores 10 - 70 microns
bacteria 0.3 - 3 microns
fungi 0.5 - 5 microns
mold 2 - 20 microns
tobacco smoke 0.003 - 0.04 microns

Although HEPA filters were designed and used in the 1940s, more and more people are just now learning about the effectiveness of a HEPA filter and the relief gained by its use. HEPA filters were originally designed to filter out radioactive dust particulate contaminants in bomb shelters during the atomic bomb tests. After realizing how powerful and effective a HEPA filter actually is people now use them in their homes and offices to help reduce the number of airborne allergens resulting in fewer allergy attacks.

HEPA filters are available in air purifiers, vacuum cleaners and masks and can be designed to meet your specific needs. Air purifiers contain HEPA filters that are designed for specific room sizes such as the Austin HM-200 and Austin HM-400 and can also be upgraded to contain extra elements to help filter allergens and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) such as smoke, ammonia and formaldehyde.
