 Alen Paralda Air Purifier
With the Paralda, Alen has taken the “green” trend to the next level. Like others it consumes very little electricity,
but what sets it apart is that none of the harmful substances found in many modern electronics are used in the Paralda.
Visually appealing and lightweight, the Paralda offers excellent filtration and an industry best, lifetime warranty.
What I like about the Alen Paralda
The Paralda could very well be the most eco friendly air purifier on the market. It is EnergyStar
rated and uses less electricity than most of the light bulbs in your home. You can literally operate this unit for pennies a day.
What really sets this unit apart is that the Paralda is the only air purifier sold in the U.S. that is
RoHS compliant. The Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) initiative was passed by the European Union in 2006
to eliminate the use of certain hazardous chemicals in electronics. This initiative tries to curb the use
of lead, mercury,
cadmium, PBB’s and PBDE’s (both used as flame retardants in plastics). None of these substances are found in the housing
or electronics of the Paralda.
This unit also comes equipped with a UV lamp to neutralize pathogens. Unlike most UV lamps, the bulbs in the
Paralda last 3-5 years, and fewer replacement bulbs means lower maintenance costs.
The control panel offers the same great features found in many of the Alen products. In addition to having a timer, filter
change indicator, and speed setting indicator, the Paralda is programmable, much like a digital thermostat.
The Paralda is aesthetically pleasing and will fit almost anywhere in your home. The translucent and bamboo colored housing
gives the Paralda unobtrusive yet sleek appearance, and a narrow footprint means it can fit nearly anywhere.
Lightweight and compact, the Paralda weighs only 15 lbs. Moving it from room to room is a breeze, and it is small enough to
fit nearly anywhere in your home.
Like all Alen air purifiers, the Paralda comes with a Lifetime Warranty. With proper filter replacement (every six months),
Alen ensures that should their product malfunction or ever fail due to workmanship or materials, you will be covered. This kind of peace of mind is
unmatched in the industry.
What I do not like about the Alen Paralda
Though Alen claims the unit is rated for a room up to 400 sq. ft. you are likely best off using it in a medium to smaller room.
Based on the CFM, the Paralda will give you the recommended 5-6 air exchanges per hour in 12x12 rooms (with a standard 8' ceiling).
The Paralda is not the best unit for odor removal. The thin layer of activated carbon built into the standard HEPA
filter is a start but can handle only light levels of odor pollutants. Alen offers another filter to address this problem can be
purchased separately.
This unit, like many others in the series, comes with an optional ionizer. This function can be turned on or off at your
discretion. However, even with regular use, it has been tested to be essentially ozone free.
The Paralda is an excellent unit, and for those most concerned about their impact on the environment, this unit is an
excellent choice. For medium to small rooms the Paralda is a great fit. Eco conscious allergy and asthma sufferers who need excellent allergen
filtration but do not have heavy smoke or odor control issues should consider the Paralda.
