we sat down and spoke with Dr. Alan Redding of Redding Allergy & Asthma Center,
located off of Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, GA.
As we find out, he's not the only allergist by
the name Redding in town, he and his brother,
Dr. David Redding share the practice.
Please tell me a little bit about yourself and your history as an allergist.
"I grew up on Sandy Springs, and completed all of my schooling in Georgia. I received my medical
training at the Medical University of South Carolina and at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. A little over two years ago,
my twin brother, David, and I opened an allergy practice in the Buckhead area of Atlanta."
How big is your practice? Is there a particular type of allergy or treatment your practice specializes in?
"We have seen 1,675 patients in our practice, to date. We specialize in treating patients with allergic
rhinitis (hay fever) and asthma with a rapid desensitization to their allergic triggers. This greatly reduces, and, sometimes eliminates,
their allergy symptoms in as fast as one month. Not only will their symptoms improve, but they can decrease their reliance on allergy medications."
What do you love about your job?
"I enjoy talking to patients, and learning their stories. Everyone has a different history. And,
I am grateful to have the ability to make people feel better."
If you could suggest one thing for your patients what would it be?
"You don't have to suffer from allergies. See a board-certified allergist, and learn how great it is to feel allergy-free."
What is your favorite allergy relief product?
"Mattress and pillow allergy covers are my most often recommended products, especially
for patients with dust mite allergy. I also recommend air filters for all patients with allergies to their cats and dogs."
Where do you see allergy treatment going in the near future? In the distant future?
"Allergy treatment, like all things in medicine, will continue to evolve. But,
the best form of allergy treatment is allergy shots, which have been given for over 100 years. I don't see this changing anytime soon."
Is there anything else you'd like to add or discuss?
"My brother, David, and I frequently discuss our cases with each other in order to
formulate optimal diagnostic and treatment plans. This way, our patients get second opinions for free!"
