Dear Fellow Allergy Sufferer,
Here in Atlanta, we’ve had a cold spell
recently that has brought temperatures down
into the teens and pushed humidity levels
even lower. We continue to fill our
humidifiers up every night, and my wife
takes care of keeping them clean and working
properly. I was doing some
nasal irrigating
a few evenings ago ( don’t knock it till
you’ve tried it), and my 3 year old came
into the bathroom and wanted to give it a
try. She has a cold so I being the great
father that I am, asked my wife if it was ok
for her to do so. She was concerned that our
little one would consume the saline mix
rather than purging it and it would cause
her to possibly throw up or gag.
Fortunately, that did not happen. I poured
in the
saline mix, added warm water, laid a towel
down for her, and let her have a go. She did
it with no problems and said that it made
her nose “not hurt as much”, which I took as
a good thing.
If you haven’t already
done so, try irrigating and flushing out
your nasal passages, especially during the
winter months. Not to get too graphic, but
you will be amazed by what you purge and
you’ll feel better, especially in the
wintertime if you have gas heat like we
do. And one more thing, always use saline,
not just warm water. I tried using just
water a few weeks ago when we ran out of
saline replacement mix, and found the
experience awfully painful.
From our family of nasal irrigators to yours,
breathe better,
