Amaircare 2500 HEPA Air Purifier
We have long offered the Roomaid portable air purifier from Amaircare, but after research and product comparison, we have finally
decided that the full size Amaircare air purifiers would have a lot to offer our customers. With the Amaircare 2500 HEPA air purifier,
you get a machine very similar to an Austin, both in performance and construction. The particle filtration is ideal for anyone sensitive
to pollen, dander, mold or other particle pollution, and when equipped with an optional VOC canister, this allergy air purifier
is great for gaseous and chemical pollutants as well as odor. Like other steal constructed HEPA air purifiers we offer, the Amaircare 2500
doesn't add in many extras. Instead, this unit focuses on quality filtration, easy use, and durability. After deconstructing a sample model of the
2500 air purifier, this is what we found.
What I like about the Amaircare 2500 Air Purifier
The Amaircare 2500 is compact and fairly lightweight even with a solid steel frame. The steel, unlike cheaper
plastics used in store brand air purifiers, won't off-gas and comes in three colors. The inner construction
features gaskets to create a sealed system where there is no air leakage. The materials used are quality
materials, with all parts, except the German-made motor, made and assembled in Canada. Both the sealed system and steel
construction lends itself to the creation of a quality air purifier that is allergy friendly.
When it comes to filtration, the materials and results are solid. With 50 sq. ft. of true HEPA filter media, the 2500
traps 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or larger. A non-woven polyester pre-filter impregnated with activated carbon
traps odors as well as large particles like pet hair and dust bunnies. The inner most layer of filtration is one
of two things. The standard unit comes with an carbon filter that again traps odors, smoke and some gaseous
air pollution. We recommend that for better filtration, you move up to the VOC canister. While the canister does
cost more, since you only replace it once a year instead of twice a year with the standard carbon filters, the
cost difference annually is only $20. And the added filtration is worth far more than that. This is an 8 lb.
canister of granulated activated carbon that acts as the last stage of filtration. The thick carbon
bed is ideal for gas adsorption and trapping chemical pollution like formaldehyde (a common household pollutant).
If you own a pet and really want to help cut down on the dander AND odor, the VOC canister, combined with the
HEPA filter, do an excellent job of reducing odors as well as allergens. The HEPA filter, with normal usage,
will usually last 2-5 years while the VOC canister will give you a year of solid service. If you opt for the
carbon filters instead of the canister, you should replace these every six months, and pre-filters should be replaced
about once every 3 months. In between replacements, you can vacuum the exterior of the unit to help clear any debris
caught by the perforated steel exterior or large particles trapped on the pre-filter. You can stretch the pre-filters and
keep them on the unit longer, but their ability to capture odors significantly drops off after 2-3 months.
The Amaircare 2500 air purifier is a very basic, performance orientated air purifier. There are no frills, so you won't pay
extra for a remote, LCD screen or filter life monitor. Instead, you pay for only an effective air cleaner. The controls are
simple. The only control on the unit is a variable dial that allows you to set the fan speed however you like. Filter
replacement is simple. You just remove the screws at the top, pull old filters and insert the new. Just make sure the gasket is
lined up correctly so that the filter seals thoroughly. Other than filter replacement and occasionally vacuuming the
exterior, you simply set this air purifier, and let it do it's thing.
Coverage area is similar to comparable air purifiers. You'll get about the same air exchange rate from the Amaircare 2500 as
you would with an Austin HealthMate Jr. This air cleaner is best suited for rooms approximately 15' x 15' in size, though you can
use it for larger spaces with the tradeoff being fewer air exchanges per hour.
Before leaving the factory, each unit is tested for particle removal efficiency. Amaircare ensures that each air purifier they
construct consistently meets or exceeds true HEPA standards. Only a handful of air purifier manufacturers actually test each
unit before it is packed and shipped.
This is one of only a few air purifier models that is actually made in North America. Customer requests for American made
products is something we often hear, and while this unit is not made in the U.S. it is made in Canada of quality
components.
What I didn't like about the Amaircare 2500 Air Purifier
Some will complain about the lack of digital convenience or added features, but the Amaircare 2500 focuses solely on
filtration and ease of use. So while it lacks a filter replacement indicator or remote, the price point is more
reasonable.
When replacing the filters in either the 2500 or 3000, you'll need to have 2 screw drivers on hand. This isn't a problem
for the vast majority of people. A flat head will remove five of the screws while a fifth silver "safety" screw requires a Phillips
style screwdriver. For CSA certification, this odd-man-out screw is required but again, a Phillips style and standard screwdriver
shouldn't be an issue for most people.
As a dependable, no frills HEPA air purifier, the Amaircare 2500 is a solid particle filtration unit with very few drawbacks. We
recommended upgrading to the VOC canister for pet owners or those concerned with the adsorption of gas or chemical pollutants. The construction and
materials are excellent though it does lack value added features. Yearly maintenance costs are in line with similarly styled
air purifiers, and overall the ease of use is mind numbingly simple. While it doesn't carry the name of leaders in the HEPA air purifier
industry, the total value and performance is on par with some of the best brands out there.
