Amaircare 3000 HEPA Air Purifier
As the largest Amaircare HEPA air purifier we offer, the Amaircare 3000 offers a full 100 sq. ft. of true HEPA filter media to capture
99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger. Three phases of filtration trap and remove a wide range of particle and gas pollutants,
including common allergens like pet dander, mold spores, dust mite allergen, and pollen. With steel construction and gaskets around the filter,
the Amaircare 3000 will not off-gas like many plastic air purifiers, and the sealed system ensures no air leakage or mixing of dirty and
purified air. After breaking down this HEPA air purifier, this is what we found.
What I like about the Amaircare 3000 Air Purifier
Starting from the exterior and working our way in. The Amaircare 3000 has a solid steel exterior that has a powder coat,
baked enamel finish. Though more costly than plastic, steel components greatly reduce any risk of off-gassing. Though not
extremely heavy, this unit is more easily moved with the standard casters that come equipped. Lastly, Controls are simple with a
variable dial to control the CFM/fan speed.
The unit is easily disassembled. A few screws hold the top cover to the rest of the unit, and once removed you have
easy access to the filters. Take note of the gasket on top of the unit, and be sure to properly re-seat this once you
are finished changing the filters.
Inside the housing, you have three layers of filtration. First is a non-woven nylon pre-filter. This type of pre-filter is
common amongst air purifiers and provides a great first line of filtration. Impregnated activated carbon adsorbs odors while
the mesh itself traps larger particles like pet hair. This filter should be replaced every 3-6 months. While the particle filtration
will only be reduced by build-up on the exterior of the filter, this is easily handled by vacuuming the exterior periodically. When
used in spaces where odors are a problem, this carbon pre-filter is at its best, but you will want to change it at
shorter intervals due to greater use.
The HEPA filter does the majority of the heavy lifting when it comes to allergen and particle filtration. With a full
100 sq. ft. of HEPA filter media, the Amaircare 3000 provides solid filtration of particles 0.3 microns or larger. The performance is
tested before each units leaves the factory, and the filter itself only needs to be changed every 2-5 years. In a
typical household filter replacement will lean more towards the 5 year mark. In older home with a lot of dust or in
homes where there are pets, you may want to replace the filter more frequently.
The last layer of filtration is either an activated carbon mat or a VOC canister. The mat comes standard with the
3000, and should be replaced every 6 months. This last filter traps odors and tackles light chemical or gaseous
pollutants in the home. If you have pets or have a newer home where VOC's can be a concern, we suggest you consider
the canister. The VOC canister is packed with 12 lbs. of activated carbon and provides a thicker bed that will
adsorb chemical pollution and odors more effectively. In newer home or renovated homes, carpet, paint and even
furniture can off gas VOC's, and this canister is a great way to effectively filter them from the air you breathe. This
canister also provides decent filtration of tobacco smoke or secondhand smoke.
With independent components, filters can be replaced individually, and the ability to purchase annual filter kits is
an easy and effective way to ensure your Amaircare air purifier is functioning at its best. Replacement is a very simple
process that only requires a screw driver and about 10 minutes of your time.
With a more powerful motor and larger volumes of filter media, the Amaircare 3000 will effectively clean the air in rooms around
420 sq. ft. and smaller. Though, to reach the recommended 6 air exchanges per hour, you'll likely want to place it in a room just under 300
sq. ft. As with any HEPA air purifier, this will vary depending on your specific needs.
All components, except for a German made motor, are made and assembled in Canada. A five year warranty backs the motor while a
one year parts and labor guarantee covers the entire unit.
What I didn't like about the Amaircare 3000 Air Purifier
The Amaircare 3000 is a no frills HEPA air purifier. You won't pay extra for a remote, LCD display or indicator lights. The
drawback to this is there is no way for the unit itself to remind you when to replace the filters.
I noticed a bit of.... a lemon or lemon grass scent coming from the machine when I first started it, but shortly through the
weekend test, it had dissipated. Most air purifiers give off some scent the first time they are used, but it should go away after
a short time.
Unlike most air purifiers, which exhaust cleaned air upwards, the exhaust vents of the 3000 angle downward. This may
be problematic for those who don't clean their floors regularly since it may kick up debris laying on the floor. You can alleviate
this by elevating the machine, but that may not be feasible for everyone.
The Amaircare is basic, "set it and forget it" HEPA air purifier. It delivers dependable allergen filtration, and with the optional
VOC canister allows you to filter VOC's as well as smoke. While it may lack many of the digital conveniences found in other air
purifiers, the 3000 is a solid unit focused solely on effectively cleaning the air in your home. Annual filter costs are in line
with comparable models that offer similar filtration results, and the ease of use is about as good as it gets. With the VOC carbon
canister, we recommend this unit for pet owners, allergy & asthma sufferers or anyone concerned with particle or gaseous
pollution in medium to large size rooms.

3/5/12 I was suffering from constant stuffiness, so I purchased a Honeywell 50250 and results were immediate. It is amazing the difference in the air quality in my home, and it is great in eliminating odors too. More Testimonials
