Blueair Company Information and History

Originating in Sweden, Blueair air purifiers quickly earned a reputation for top-notch performance, technological innovation, and quality design. Blueair’s focus has always been to design and manufacture the best air purification system available. The Blueair air purifier offers health benefits plus award-winning design and functionality.

With more than a decade in the air purifier industry, Blueair has been recognized by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), as the Blueair 503 air purifier equals or surpasses 172 other products in performance and effectiveness.

Founded in 1996 by President Bengt Rittri, Blueair began with a commitment to provide products that would enhance respiratory health and help relieve the discomfort of allergy and asthma symptoms. With headquarters in Stockholm and Chicago and satellite offices around the world, Blueair is dedicated to creating a healthier indoor air quality.

“We are actively researching new clean air solutions for the homes, offices, and commercial locations where all of us live, work, and breathe,” says Holly Isbister, Eastern U.S. Sales Manager for Blueair.

In 2004, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified Blueair with the Energy Star award for all their air purifiers manufactured in the U.S. Blueair has demonstrated that they value everyone’s right to clean air, and they have made their air purifiers available to countries around the world.

In addition to being environmentally conscious, Blueair has participated in television programs like the Extreme Makeover, donating various products to help people in need. Blueair also donated 25 Blueair 503 air purifiers to New York City Schools after the September 11 attacks to reduce contaminants such as soot, dirt, and ashes since children were experiencing breathing problems due to air pollutants. Students and teachers safely returned to school after Blueair installed air purifiers in classrooms, gyms, and cafeterias at schools throughout the city.

But Blueair’s commitment doesn’t stop there: “Blueair employees gather monthly to put together bag lunches for a local shelter,” Isbister adds, demonstrating that the Blueair company cares for their community as well as their environment.

Engineered and built for high performance, the Blueair air purifier is made of galvanized steel, rather than less-durable plastic, and it’s designed to compliment any decor. The Blueair air purifier offers an exceptionally long product life and carries the industry’s best warranty: 10 years. Using only 15 watts on low, Blueair air purifiers require very little power; the power for a Blueair air purifier costs about the same as the power for a single light bulb. There’s no reason to worry about high energy consumption with Blueair air purifiers!

Breaking industry norms is the norm for Blueair. Rather than using the standard triclosan-coated paper or glass filter fibers, which can harm the environment, Blueair uses nontoxic polypropylene in its filters. This filter media is one of the least harmful plastics, producing only carbon dioxide and water as it decomposes.

Because the polypropylene air filter is waterproof, Blueair air filters naturally resist contamination from bacteria, viruses, and mold – without chemical additives or washes. A special powder coat ensures that Blueair air purifiers will never produce chemical off-gassing.

Blueair’s patented HEPASilent technology moves particles through an enclosed ion chamber, charging the particles so that they will stick to the air filter media. The filter media captures 99.97% of irritating particles, gases, and odors down to 0.1 micron, even on its lowest speed; this surpasses standard HEPA performance, which captures 99.7% of particles down to 0.3 micron.

Blueair’s powerful yet nearly silent air cleaners present a visually pleasing form as well as effective functionality. With its sleek, contemporary look, the Blueair air purifier offers a quiet solution to your air cleaning needs. On its lowest setting, the air purifier emits no more sound than a desktop computer. While most air purifiers require a loud, strong fan to draw in air, Blueair’s SurroundAir technology achieves peak performance without the annoying noise of a powerful fan, thanks to the combination of the less-dense filter and the ion chamber. Constructed of noise-muffing galvanized steel instead of resonating plastic, even the Blueair housing is designed with quietness in mind.

“Blueair cleans more air, at a faster rate, with less noise than any other air purifier on the market today,” Isbister concludes. With proven results, you’ll feel confident when you purchase your new Blueair air purifier!
