Danby Dehumidifiers
The Danby line of dehumidifiers is possibly the best in the
business. The models differ in capacity and square footage serviced,
but they all offer efficient water removal at a reasonable price.
After testing two different models at our facility, we were
impressed by the results.
What I liked about the Danby dehumidifiers
Quite simply, the Danby removed enormous amounts of water from the
air. Although both models were tested during the hot and humid
months of summer, we were surprised to find that over the course of
an eight hour period we had to empty the holding tanks of each three
times. Combined, the two models removed a total of 232 pints of
moisture from the air in our warehouse, the equivalent of 29
gallons. Granted, we realized that the conditions in your home are
likely not as extreme as those under which we tested, but the sheer
volume of moisture collected was likely the most impressive feature
of these models.
The ease of use was also a decided advantage. All of the Danby
models provide users with two simple fan settings as well as a
humidistat control. When compared to a separate humidity gauge, the
humidity readings on the Danby were very accurate.
Despite running non-stop during our testing periods, the Danby
models are all quiet for their size. Regardless of fan setting, they
produced less noise than comparable models. Additionally, the Danby
dehumidifiers are all Energy Star compliant and use less electricity
than most of their competitors.
All models also offer a direct drain line to save the aggravation of
having to manually empty the tank. This would be particularly useful
if you were using it in a basement or somewhere near your HVAC drain
line where you could effectively tie the dehumidifier line into the
existing drain line. Regardless of whether you use it in your
basement or living room, the drain line saves mess and hassle.
What I did not like about the Danby dehumidifiers
There is little doubt these are heavy. On low pile carpet and hard
surfaces the casters save you a good deal of trouble when moving
them, but they are certainly not an appliance you want to be moving
often.
Overall, the Danby Dehumidifier is likely the best humidifier on the
market, particularly for larger areas. Our test of the two of the
Danby models gave us excellent results with few drawbacks, and a
most recent release of Consumer Reports only supports what we found.
They ranked a Danby as its Best Buy for large capacity
dehumidifiers.
