    Dried out mold
Reviewed by: Sue from Nashville

We've only had this for a month, but so far it's done great to dry out an area in our basement where we'd had water damage and mold growing.

    Beating Korea's Humidity
Reviewed by: Army Wife from Pyeongtaek, South Korea

Before I bought this dehumidifier, my marble floors were damp and my kids were slipping on them, my dished wouldn't dry, my sheets were damp, and it was overall miserable in the house. The day this was delivered there was immediate relief. Bought the humidity from 87% to 60% in 24 hours and it works for the whole house! The only reason it got 4 stars was that the unit is a little noisy and it does put out some heat.

    Danby DH working well
Reviewed by: from PA

Just bought and received as promised. Dried out basement in two days with over a bucket each day. Actual humidity reading handy as well as actual temperature. Reviews said quiet system, but I would say not loud, but not quiet. Fan runs when machine is turned on even if not dehumidfying, thus always has sound of a fan running. Overall pleased, just don't like fan always running.

Customer Q & A
Q1: How do I program the timer on my Danby dehumidifier ddr5009ree......what is meant by stand-by?
A: To program the unit to turn OFF at a certain time - While the unit is turned on, use your remote or press the button that looks like a clock. Then use the up and down arrows to adjust the hour. If you set it for 4, the unit will turn itself off in 4 hours. If you set it for 8, it will shut off in 8 hours OR, whenever the tank becomes full. This can be set for the unit to run for UP TO 24 hours or until the bucket is full. If you are using the direct drain option, you don't have to worry about the bucket filling.
STANDBY MODE - While Danby does a poor job of stating this, Stanboy Mode is basically when the dehumidifier is plugged in but turned off. When the Danby 50 or 70 pint is plugged in but turned off, you can use the remote or the clock button to set a timer for when the unit will turn back on. So press that clock button, then use the arrows to select and hour from 0-24. If you set it for 4 hours, the dehumidifier will turn in at your last set humidity level in 4 hours. If you set it for 8 hours, it will turn on in 8 hours.
Q2: Does the fan run all the time even when the bucket if full?
A: No. About the only time the unit completely kicks off is when the power is out, when you set the time and it goes into Standby mode after it cycles off, and when the bucket is completely full. When full the unit goes into Standby mode until emptied then will resume at your previous settings.
Q3: Why is the fan running all the time? My older unit was turning off when the humidity was low.
A: The fan runs continuously to keep air circulating throughout the room. This is to provide a more even and thorough removal of moisture in the space where you have the Danby operating.

Danby Dehumidifiers
The Danby line of dehumidifiers is possibly the best in the
business. The models differ in capacity and square footage serviced,
but they all offer efficient water removal at a reasonable price.
After testing two different models at our facility, we were
impressed by the results.
What I liked about the Danby dehumidifiers
Quite simply, the Danby removed enormous amounts of water from the
air. Although both models were tested during the hot and humid
months of summer, we were surprised to find that over the course of
an eight hour period we had to empty the holding tanks of each three
times. Combined, the two models removed a total of 232 pints of
moisture from the air in our warehouse, the equivalent of 29
gallons. Granted, we realized that the conditions in your home are
likely not as extreme as those under which we tested, but the sheer
volume of moisture collected was likely the most impressive feature
of these models.
The ease of use was also a decided advantage. All of the Danby
models provide users with two simple fan settings as well as a
humidistat control. When compared to a separate humidity gauge, the
humidity readings on the Danby were very accurate.
Despite running non-stop during our testing periods, the Danby
models are all quiet for their size. Regardless of fan setting, they
produced less noise than comparable models. Additionally, the Danby
dehumidifiers are all Energy Star compliant and use less electricity
than most of their competitors.
All models also offer a direct drain line to save the aggravation of
having to manually empty the tank. This would be particularly useful
if you were using it in a basement or somewhere near your HVAC drain
line where you could effectively tie the dehumidifier line into the
existing drain line. Regardless of whether you use it in your
basement or living room, the drain line saves mess and hassle.
What I did not like about the Danby dehumidifiers
There is little doubt these are heavy. On low pile carpet and hard
surfaces the casters save you a good deal of trouble when moving
them, but they are certainly not an appliance you want to be moving
often.
Overall, the Danby Dehumidifier is likely the best humidifier on the
market, particularly for larger areas. Our test of the two of the
Danby models gave us excellent results with few drawbacks, and a
most recent release of Consumer Reports only supports what we found.
They ranked a Danby as its Best Buy for large capacity
dehumidifiers.
