the newest addition to the Dri-Eaz line of dehumidifiers, the Dri-Eaz PHD 200 dehumidifier proves that big things can come in small packages. Compact, rugged, and
efficient, the PHD200 is specially designed to fit in crawlspaces, basements, and other areas where space is at a premium. It is even narrow enough to fit between floor
joists! As a replacement to the popular CMC100, the Dri-Eaz PHD 200 joins the rest of their dehumidifier line and is built right here in the USA. With intuitive push-button
controls and a digital display, the PHD gives you complete control of relative humidity levels while removing 75 pints of moisture per day. Gravity working against you? Not a
problem with the PHD's built-in condensate pump, and the supplied 20 feet of hose give you the ability to drain the extracted moisture out of nearly any size space. If you're looking
for a dependable, extremely durable and efficient crawlspace dehumidifier, look no further than the new Dri-Eaz PHD200.
Dri-Eaz PHD200 Dehumidifier
The new Dri-Eaz PHFD200 is a compact, professional-grade dehumidifier specifically designed for confined spaces. When it comes to drying
out your crawlspace, basement or attic, your options are no longer limited. With exceptional drying ability, easy-to-use digital controls, a compact, versatile design,
and an integrated condensate pump, the Dri-Eaz PHD200 gives you all the necessary tools to keep your home drier and free of mold, mildew odors, and insects.
As a replacement for the popular CMC100, the PHD 200 dehumidifier delivers the same solid
drying performance but with a few noticeable upgrades. With a new sample model, we ran the PHD 200 in our warehouse then tested it in a crawlspace to see
how it would perform in a real world setting.
What I like about the PHD 200 Crawl Space Dehumidifier
The first things you'll notice about the new PHD 200 dehumidifier are its size and weight. While it is compact, just small enough to fit between a
standard floor joist or stud, it also carries it weight surprising well. At around 65 lbs. this dehumidifier is literally a little lug! Alliteration
aside, the compact nature of dehumidifier makes it ideal for crawlspaces, attics or other confined areas. Since the PHD lacks the panels of the older
CMC100, this newer model cannot be configured differently, i.e. move the dry air exhaust. However, it can be ducted or hung with optional duct attachment or
joist mounting kits. Overall, it retains the compact and versatile design, just in a slightly different way.
In terms of moisture removal, the Dri-Eaz PHD 200 dehumidifier will pull out a little more moisture than its predecessor, 75 pints per day. Under more
humid conditions, you may exceed this. While running the PHD 200 in a section of our warehouse that is NOT climate controlled, we filled two 5-gallon
buckets in just over 12 hours of operation. During the test period, conditions in this space were exceptionally warm (low 80's) and humid (starting relative
humidity of around 84%). These conditions are not typical, but they do highlight this dehumidifier's ability to extract more moisture under severe conditions.
We also placed this model in the crawlspace of a local resident. With a crawlspace area of 1125 feet, the starting relative humidity in this space was around 72%. After leveling
the unit, running the power cord and drain line, we set a target humidity of 50%. At 50% relative humidity, the moisture content in the air is low enough to
prevent the active growth of mold, mildew odors and limit certain common household pests. Within two days, the digital humidistat read 50% on the PHD 200. Using
an AcuRite Hygrometer, we double checked this and obtained three readings from different sections of the area - 50%, 52% and 49%. Right within our range.
If the space your drying is not conducive to a gravity drain, getting moisture out can often mean a purchasing a dehumidifier AND a condensate pump.
The PHD 200 eliminates the need for a separate purchase with an integrated condensate pump and 20 feet of hose. This provides the ability to run the line to a nearby drain,
feed it into an existing waste water line or at least run the line through a small hole to the exterior of the space. If the temperatures where you operate the PHD 200
get below freezing during the winter months, a pump purge allows you to expel all the water in the pump reservoir for safe storage.
The digital display and controls on this unit are a big improvement over the more traditional manual knobs or dials. From the LCD display you can determine what the
current relative humidity and temperature are (Inlet), what your set point is, how long the dehumidifier has run, what the current amperage draw is for the compressor, and what the cold coil
temperature is. This information can help make sure your unit functions properly and diagnose any potential problems. The controls also let you select between Celsius and Fahrenheit and your choice of
What I do not like about the PHD 200 Crawl Space Dehumidifier
The PHD 200 is slightly heavier than the older CMC100, though the difference is only about 10 lbs. Aside from this, you do lose the ability to configure the PHD200 like
you did with the CMC100. The ability to duct and hang this model from a floor joist mitigate this somewhat, but you lose some of the through-the-wall installation ability. The
last negative about this unit is likely what I consider the most significant. The CMC100 was Energy Star compliant while the new PHD200 is not. To lessen the effect of this,
Dri-Eaz has reduced the CFM of this model. While reducing the CFM, Dri-Eaz was still able to increase the moisture removal and limit the increase in amperage draw to only about
one amp. So while it is not quite as efficient, the net effect on your power bill would not be that much more than the Energy Star rated CMC100.
In all, the new Dri-Eaz PHD 200 dehumidifier is an excellent replacement for the CMC100. With better moisture removal, a rugged rotomolded polyethylene body (like those used with
their most expensive models), an internal condensate pump and easy-to-use controls, the PHD200 is an excellent fit in any home. It is small enough to be portable and does not require
much maintenance. For humidity control in tightest spaces, the Dri-Eaz PHD 200 dehumidifier is a great permanent solution.
