What is a dust mite encasing?
Crafted from unique fabric blends, mattress and pillow encasings are specifically designed to block out dust mites, dust mite feces, and other allergens.
Unlike a normal sheet or pillow case, they encase and protect the entire
mattress or pillow. They also zip up tightly. Used beneath your normal
linens, mattress and pillow encasings will silently and invisibly
protect against allergens.
Why do you need dust mite encasings?
If you wake up in the morning with a stuffy nose, itchy eyes, sore
throat, or other allergy symptoms, you are probably allergic to dust
mites. Dust mites are microscopic creatures which love to live in
bedding. Unfortunately, their feces, waste materials and body fragments
make many people allergic, causing morning congestion and restless
nights. (Learn
more about dust mites.) Mattress and pillow encasings will help alleviate your
allergy symptoms, so you can wake up well-rested, with less sniffling.
How do dust mite encasings work?
Specially blended fabrics keep dust mites and dust mite allergens
from penetrating. Allergy Armor Ultra has an average pore size of
2.8 microns so that even the smallest allergens cannot pass through. Decorative
sheets and pillowcases can be washed on a weekly
basis, keeping them dust mite free. You won't have to worry about dust
mites living in the pillow or mattress beneath.
What does "membrane-free" mean?
Allergy Armor CleanAir Classic Membrane has a urethane membrane barrier to block allergens. The membrane barrier is also waterproof, and so we normally
recommend these encasings for small children. Membrane-free encasings are softer, more comfortable, and more breathable; they rely on tight-weaving technology
to create pore sizes so small that allergens cannot pass through the fabric. Our membrane free encasings include
Allergy Armor Ultra,
Allergy Armor Advanced, and
Allergy Armor AllerSoft Cotton Blend.
How do you use dust mite encasings?
Pillow encasings are extremely easy to put on. Simply slip your
pillow into it, zip it up, and then put your normal decorative pillow
case over your dust mite pillow encasing. Mattress encasings can be a
bit more difficult. The job is easiest if two people work together – one
person should hold the mattress up, while the other person pulls on the
encasing. Fortunately, you only have to take them off a few times a
year.
How do you care for dust mite encasings?
Caring for mattress and pillow encasings is simple. Just machine
wash on warm or hot, and gently tumble dry. Do not use bleach. Pillow
encasings can be washed every couple weeks. Mattress encasings only need
to be washed 3 or 4 times per year. Other bedding should be washed in
hot water every one to two weeks.
