ALCAT Food Sensitivity Test

My Allergy Test

ALCAT Food Sensitivity Home Kit

The ALCAT test is a simple blood test that measures food sensitivities based on reactions of immune cells when exposed to different foods. It comes with everything you need to discover your food sensitivities which may be causing nasal allergies, asthma, arthritis, inability to lose weight, fatigue, headaches, and other problems. Once the filled out test is returned to Al-Cat, approximately five days later you will receive email with the test results, with a hard copy sent out within ten business days.

The kit contains an informative DVD featuring Fred Pescatore, MD, author of The Hamptons Diet, and Roger Deutsch, author of Your Hidden Food Allergies Are Making You Fat, along with a finger-stick lancet, a vial to collect your blood sample, detailed instructions, and a pre-paid FedEx clinical pack to ship your sample to the lab.

For a lab fee of $99, your sample will be tested for sensitivity to 20 common foods.  Foods tested include apple, barley, beef, broccoli, cane sugar, carrot, corn, cow's milk, garlic, gluten, lemon, orange, peanut, pork, rice, soybean, sweet potato, tomato, tuna, and turkey.

*Please note that this product is not a substitute for professional testing by your health professional. If you think you are suffering from food allergies, visit an allergist. Contact us if you need help locating an allergist in your area.

I wrote an earlier review that I would like to take back. I actually recieved the the home test kit for the second time the first did not work. the second was explained much better and thier customer service specialists actually helped a lot too. Operator Error I suppose. If you buy this test kit make sure and call for specifics if you are confused in any way, it helps
  finger prick not always simple

Attempted the home test. Finger stick did not produce amt of blood required. I called ALCAT who is sending me a 2nd test to try. Representative on the phone said that sometimes that does occur. It takes about nine droplets to fill the vial. They also offered to credit the finger stick test toward a larger panel. I think the test price is most reasonable and while not extensive it does test some of the common culprits like gluten and corn.
  Excellent test

The ALCAT test is an excellent way to determine if you have underlying or delayed hypersensitivity allergies to foods you regularly eat. It is an expensive test however, and while this home test is only $99, it only tests 20 foods. I offer this to my patients with a minimum of 50 foods tested and have seen amazing results.

Customer Q & A

Q1: I see this test checks for gluten, but does it look for wheat allergies? And if it doesn't, do you offer another test that includes that? Thanks!

A: The ALCAT test we used to carry does not. ALCAT does have more comprehensive and more expensive tests available that do test wheat sensitivity. The MyFoodAllergy test also tests for wheat sensitivity. It can be found here. Or to see all available ALCAT tests available

Q2: Will Medicare or other insurance pay for it?

A: Contacting your individual care provider will likey be your first step. I know there are numerous physicians who work with Cell Science to have patients take full panels of tests dozens of more foods and categories tested than the 20 or so for this particular test. With a physician recommending or prescribing these panels, you would likely have a better case for the cost to be covered under your health insurance. Insurers vary widely so it's difficult to generalize about whether or not these test panels would be covered.
