What is Organic Cotton?
Organic agriculture is a way of production which
promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles
and soil biological activity. The primary goal of
organic agriculture is to optimize the health and
productivity of interdependent communities of soil life,
plants, animals, and people. "Certified organic" means
the item has been grown according to strict standards
which are verified by independent state or private
organizations. To be certified, your organic cotton has
met previous inspections of farm fields and processing
facilities, and periodic testing of soil and water.
|
|
How does organic cotton help protect the environment?
Conventional agriculture methods cause water
contamination. Organic farming eliminates chemical
pollution and nitrogen leaching, and helps build the
soil. This protects and conserves water resources.
Organic agriculture protects the health of people and
the planet, by reducing exposures to toxic chemicals and
synthetic pesticides, which end up in the ground, air,
water, and food supply. Because organic agriculture doesn't use toxic and persistent pesticides, choosing
organic products is an easy way to help protect
yourself.
