The new EnviroMate Tandem EV1 is a steam and HEPA vacuum cleaner combination that is really unlike any single home appliance
available today. It can steam clean multiple surfaces, extract
steam residue when needed, or simply be used as a HEPA vacuum cleaner. This multi-purpose steam cleaning and vacuum system is designed to

What I like about the Reliable Tandem EV1
The Reliable Tandem EV1 is one of the best steam cleaners that we sell for someone with a lot of carpeting in their home. The steam cleaner and
vacuum function extremely well together, and this is one of VERY few appliances that successfully combines both of these technologies.
The system also works on furniture and fabrics, but its sets itself apart from other steam
cleaners when used on carpet. The steam dislodges dirt from deep in the carpet while the vacuum action sucks up the dirt. So you get
similar cleaning results to that of hot water extractor (traditional carpet cleaner), without all of the excess water. This
helps reduce the risk of mold growth by keeping excess moisture out of the carpet and underlayment.
This combination steam cleaner/vacuum is really unlike any model we have previously tested or come across. Similar machines
are available, but they are primarily for commercial applications and many run on 220V which makes them inaccessible to most
consumers. As far as a residential appliance the Tandem really makes some inroads in this category. Being 110V, anyone here in the
U.S. can use it, and size isn't a prohibitive as similar products.
Control of this model is user friendly. After filling the waste water (for vacuuming) and cold water reservoirs (for steam cleaning),
and attaching the right accessories, you're pretty much set. The
heat up time for the steam boiler is very close to the 5 minute mark highlighted by Reliable, and switching between the vacuum and
steam cleaning functionality is about as easy as pressing a button. The easy switch from steaming to vacuuming is perfect cleaning a wider
variety of surfaces and soil than a vacuum or steam cleaner alone.
One hurdle that we have noticed people have with steam cleaners is that traditional steam cleaners do not pick anything up. There is no suction
to pick up and remove loose debris. Most steam cleaners now have a cloth or bonnet to have collect loosened dirt and debris, but on some surfaces this
is still not as effective as actual suction. The EnviroMate Tandem remedies that by actually combining the suction of a vacuum cleaner with a
steam vapor cleaner.
Overall, the cleaning and sanitizing ability of the Tandem is remarkable. The steam pressure and temperature is consist and high
enough to deep clean and sanitize nearly any surface. And with steam cleaning you can avoid the use of harsh chemical cleaners that can
pollute your indoor air with fumes and vapors. Steam cleaning can also remove chemical residue left from previous cleanings. With the vacuum
cleaner aspect of this machine, you have a vacuum that will work great on smooth flooring and provides several levels of filtration. The
tank captures debris and help filter the water with a washable foam filter. This all help to keep dust down and eliminates the need
of bags that need to be replaced. And dual activated carbon and HEPA
filters captures the ultra fine particles and odors that are commonly found throughout your home. So the Reliable Tandem combines some of the
best features of both cleaning with a HEPA vacuum cleaner and sanitizing with a steam cleaner.
What I do not like about the Reliable Tandem EV1
One of the drawbacks of a combination unit is that the boiler capacity is smaller than other Reliable models. The upside to this is
that the Tandem does have the CSS and a cold water reservoir which means, while you may not have as large of a boiler, you do have steam on demand, which for most
is a much more important feature.
With this model, you are reaching the very upper end of Reliable home appliances. And while the initial cost may seem to be high,
when you factor in what you would pay for a continuous steam, steam cleaner, and a quality HEPA vacuum cleaner, the cost
seems more manageable. And overall, the EV1 is made of quality components, both internally and externally. Things like an ABS body,
upgraded internal circuitry and a durable accessories all add value that you often can't see but will notice when you don't have to replace
this model in a year or two, as you would likely have to with less expensive, Chinese manufactured steam cleaners.
As a combined cleaning tool, there is really in the way of competition. Reliable is one of very few manufacturers that have successfully combined a quality
steam cleaner with a HEPA vacuum cleaner without excess bulk or expense. From the attachments to the boiler, each part of this steam cleaner is durable and
made of the best Italian components. The HEPA vacuum is not only allergy friendly but easy to use, and the overall cleaning and sanitizing ability of
