  No more raining floor joists!
Reviewed by: Happy customers!!! from Wyoming and North Dakota

My husband and I purchased a fixer upper home in ND that had such moisture problems that the crawl space actually had raining floor joists from the upper level. After a year of trying everything to fix it, internet research found the Aprilaire 1710A Basement Dehumidifier. We live in WY so work on the house can only be done during non-snowy seasons. That means the house can be closed up for 7-8 mos. at a time. Figuring we had nothing to lose, we purchased it. Our crawl space is 30'X60' and though most of it has 4 ft walls, there's a 10'X10' section with 8 ft. walls. We weren't sure that this product would be large enough for our needs but after a year of using this dehumidifier, we're happy and relieved to report that we have no more moisture problems in the area. The price of this dehumidifier is in line with other ones we checked out and though they're all spendy I'm very frugal, it was the best $1100 we have spent in repairing this home. The cost of mold remediation would've surpassed this cost many times over. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Aprilaire 1710A Basement Dehumidifier for anyone who is having troubles with houses in high humidity areas.

We recently purchased an older house with a water issue. Even with an inspection we didn't realize how damp the basement was. After recommendations for a better dehumidifier, we selected the Aprilaire 1710a. It is great! Our basement is dry and the entire house seems drier. Even after heavy rains, there is no dampness in the basement. The smells are gone, too. We heartily recommend this unit. Only one caution...make sure it is level.

Outstanding dehumidifier. I am a co owner of a disaster restoration company and I have used many dehumidifiers for basement use. The Aprilaire 1710A is by far the best I have ever used.

I have only used this dehumidifier for a week, but it seems to work very well in my crawlspace. I have it set on 4 and it is keeping the humidity at about 50%. The only problem I had setting it up was initially I had it level. Even though I "primed" the drip pan and discharge with water which drained well, once the unit was operating all the condensate overflowed the drip pan instead of draining as it should. I had water everywhere! So I placed it on blocks and tilted it significantly toward the drain. Then it drained properly. The owners' manual did not say anything about placing it level or with a pitch. I also bought a pump to raise and move the condensate through the crawlspace wall to the outside.

The quality and performance of this product is far superior to the dehumidifiers available in the local and box hardware stores. Installation was quick and simple--and the same is true for the "drying" process of our basement. I highly recommend this item. It's worth the money. Achoo Allergy was top notch as well.

My space is sealed and had a Honeywell Dehumidifier that lasted less than a year it was repaired with a new fan that broke one and half years latter a new fan was over $300 so I bought the 1710A because of the 5 year warranty. I had to put it on some blocks to get it high enough for water to drain out my PVC pipe plugged it in ran the test then set it to 3 or 4 my 2000 sq ft space was at 50% and 72 degrees the next day.

The Aprilaire 1710A seems well built, and within the first hour of use reduced my 900 sf basement from 75% to 65% relative humidity. I've had it about a month, and I hardly ever hear it run. It is keeping my basement now at 45% - 50%. Time will tell it if remains reliable, but is certainly better built than the two $275 dehumidifiers I've had die in four years.
Does what it''s supposed to do

I recently purchased one of these units. To date, I haven't had any problems with it, and our old basement is as dry as it's ever been in years. No more excessive moisture and no more smell! The lack of a hygrometer doesn't bother me. That was one of my initial concerns, but now it's not. The construction of this dehumidifier seems more "industrial" than other units I've had. I can honestly say it's done what it's supposed to do!

We were having problems with high humidity dampness and breathing problems. Believe me when I tell you that the Aprilaire 1710A exceeded all our expectations about keeping our home dry and comfortable. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a problem with a damp cellar, mold, or breathing problems. Thank you Aprilaire.

I was a bit skeptical about purchasing the Aprilaire 1710A Dehumidifier. I have had 2 different dehumidifiers in our basement over the past 5 years. Our basement is very & musty smelling and the less expensive dehumidifiers lasted only about 2 years each. What a difference with the Aprilaire. Not only is my basement dry with no musty smell, we got a great price from achoo allergy the best price on the internet. It is a heavy, sturdy dehumidifier that gets the job done. I hope it lasts for years to come. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for. I would recommend this product to friends and family. I give it an A+.

I was getting a jump on the season and started looking to replace my old dehumidifier. Up until now I have bought consumer models for large rooms but this time I wanted something more industrial that would last longer than a year or two. I saw the Aprilaire 1710 and though it was little more than I was thinking of spending but after adding up what I’ve spent over the last few years it should balance out. The auto restart is a great feature since I've noticed during the summer we occasionally have power issues and the recent storms that rolled through knocked out power for some people for days. The casters are great for this unit and it's more than large enough to keep my entire basement dry. I’m happy with the job it’s doing and look forward to many more years of service.

Aprilaire 1710 is a excellent unit for your basement if you live in the mountains where it is always damp I found this unit works just wonderfully. While doing research for a dehumidifier I was looking for something that was quiet and powerful. My basement is about 1500 sq feet which is great for company but cold and damp in the winter. The Aprilaire 1710 is portable but high capacity and no messy buckets. I found a winner with this unit. Thank you
