Abe Kaplan, the founder of Royal-Pedic, mastered the art of high-end mattress making during the 1930s and 1940s when he worked
for Heals of London, a 300-year-old company that manufactured mattresses for England's Royal Family and other dignitaries.
In 1946, Kaplan came to America and settled in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, California. He wanted to make high-end,
exquisite, hand-crafted mattresses. Shortly after settling in Los Angeles, Kaplan's mattress business began to blossom.
Royal-Pedic mattresses soon became the premier choice for many Los Angeles based interior design firms. Most notably, the
team of architect Paul Williams and interior designer, Marti Brent, whose clients included many of Hollywood's most
recognizable film actors and actresses. For the nearly four decades that Abe and his partner Steve owned Royal-Pedic
they manufactured mattresses for innumerable clients, including an endless list of film celebrities, and six U.S. presidents,
including John F. Kennedy, who insisted on Royal-Pedic mattresses wherever he traveled.
Ronald Reagan's favorite mattress was his custom-built, giant-size 84" x 84"
Royal-Pedic All Cotton mattress. That over-sized mattress has
since been requested by many other customers. Interestingly, the largest
Royal-Pedic mattress was made for the legendary basketball star Wilt Chamberlain. His Royal-Pedic custom mattress was
10 feet wide by 10 feet long! It took eight men to deliver the mattress. Fortunately, it fit through his custom-sized double door.
The Keleman family purchased Royal-Pedic in 1984. They diligently continue the tradition of high standards and
hand-crafted quality, using only the finest natural materials for Royal-Pedic mattresses. Royal-Pedic has expanded
its offering of mattresses to include natural latex mattresses,
pillowtop mattresses,
pillowtop mattress pads,
organic cotton mattresses,
and latex organic mattresses.
Royal-Pedic is committed to providing people around the world with the finest sleep experiences and finest mattresses in the
industry.
