Sunpentown WA-1010E Portable Air Conditioner
For those needing a cooling solution to warm rooms in areas where traditional central air or window air conditioning units are not an
option, the Sunpentown WA-1010E is an ideal solution. Similar to the WA-1230E, the WA-1010E comes with an array of digital controls so you can
easily monitor and control the temperature. And with 10,000 BTU's of cooling power this portable air conditioner has the capability to cool most
rooms with ease. Best in medium size rooms, the WA-1010E can help keep your home comfortable during the hot, humid summer months.
What I liked about the Sunpentown WA-1010E
Though there are larger models, the 10,000 BTU WA-1010E is an excellent fit for most rooms. Portable air conditioners are meant for
single room cooling, and the capacity of the WA-1010E will keep cool rooms up to 300 sq. ft. For best results we recommend using this model in a
room approximately 16 x 16 ft. (a little larger than an average bedroom). Like other Sunpentown models, in the right space, this unit
can cool and cool quickly. With an EER over 11, it outpaces many comparable models in cooling efficiency. And by removing the majority of
moisture in the air it cools, it not only cools quicker but also keeps humidity levels low.
The E in the name of this unit means that there are digital controls. The control system is better than I have seen
on many other models. The Sunpentown WA-1010E has a temperature control, but it also has a thermostat that reads out
the actual temperature. The unit has a remote control, batteries not included. The timer functionality is easy to set and also
allows for the unit to run continuously.
Installation is easy. Foam spacers take up empty space caused by opening the window to vent the unit. The hose itself is
flexible and stretches up to 5 ft. For most people installation of this model will take about ten minutes or less. Quick installation
also means you can disassemble quickly and more easily move the unit from room to room as needed.
Like some other Sunpentown portable models, the WA-1010E does come equipped with two filters. A thin activated carbon filter traps
small amounts of odors while a washable particle filter traps larger airborne particles. While neither is meant to be a substitute for
the filtration of an actual air purifier, they do help keep the motor clean while providing a minimal amount of actual air cleaning.
What I did not like about the Sunpentown WA-1010E
The foam window kit in lieu of a plastic one is a drawback. The foam, while more malleable is not as sturdy as the plastic
housing found in other brands and in more expensive Sunpentown portable air conditioner models.
While the Sunpentown WA-1010E does exhaust roughly 3/4 of the water it extracts while cooling, during more humid conditions, the excess
moisture not expelled collects in a 3.2 pint internal condensate tank. Draining the water from the unit is not difficult, but
the Sunpentown does not have a bucket that is accessible. Instead you have to attach a hose and drain the collect water into a small or shallow pan to
empty the reservoir.
Despite the few drawbacks, the Sunpentown WA-1010E is a highly efficient air conditioner for areas where a window unit and central air are not
available. The portability and ease of use combined with excellent cooling capabilities makes this model an attractive option when cooling a room.
While functioning as an air conditioner, dehumidifier and fan all in one, the WA-1010E is a versatile tool to help keep your home comfortable.
