    Description

The Airfree Onix 3000 Air Sterilizer is Made in PortugalAs the largest model in the Airfree line, the Airfree Onix P3000 Air Sterilizer uses patented Thermodynamic TSS Technology to remove things like bacteria, viruses, mold spores, and even airborne dust mite allergens. The process is simple, with no harmful byproducts or expensive filters to replace. Best of all, The Airfree 3000 Filterless Mold Destroying Air Purifier has been tested, tested, and tested some more! All test results are easily accessible, but to summarize, the Airfree air purifiers have been shown to effectively reduce pathogens and some allergens. Once you have the Onix, there aren't any recurring costs. It uses only a small amount of energy to operate, and there are no filters to replace - ever.

With completely silent operation, the Airfree uses only heat and convection to remove impurities in your indoor air. Operating at temperatures between 365°F and 400°F, the Airfree Onix P3000 air purifier destroys 99.99% of microbes that pass through it. So whether you're looking to help those with a compromised immune system, remove mold spores from your indoor air, or simply make your home healthier during cold and flu season, the Airfree Onix can help. We also carry the stylish Airfree Lotus.

    Why Airfree?

It has long been known and scientifically proven that all microorganisms, viruses, in particular, are sensitive to heat. It is common knowledge that boiling water or boiling an egg at 212°F destroys viruses and bacteria.

Examples of virus inactivation by heat

Numerous studies confirm the inactivation of viruses with the application of heat. For example, the HIV virus in the blood will die when exposed to 77°C for just 0.006 seconds. In another study, the “parvovirus” and “phage phiX174” viruses were completely inactivated when exposed to 103°C. The SARS and MERS viruses (coronaviruses that cause Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) have temperature-sensitive proteins in their envelopes, which can be totally denatured at temperatures above 65°C and remain inactive. Similarly, proteins essential for the transmission of the influenza virus are sensitive to temperatures between 55°C and 70°C. Since 1977, studies show that the higher the temperature, the faster the proteins denature. However, the virus's heat sensitivity is dependent on several factors, such as virus type, exposure time, temperature, and methodology. Recent studies have shown that exposure to continuous airflow heating for sub-second time intervals is highly efficient on inactivating MS2 virus, considered relatively stable in environmental stress conditions.

The orange juice test below clearly shows the difference an Airfree Air Purifier makes in controlling mold.

Airfree Onix 3000 Air Purifier Reviews

Air Free Onix P3000 Air Sanitizer

Airfree takes a different approach to clearing your indoor air. Gone are the heavy, expensive replacement filters. Gone is the noise associated with an internal fan, and gone are any worries from ozone. This novel new approach uses only heat to kill microbes like bacteria and viruses, destroy fungi and mold spores, and reduce dust mite allergen in your home. So what is it that makes Airfree unique, and why might it be a good fit in your home or office? After spending a couple weeks with our sample model, this is what we found.

What I like about the Airfree Onix P3000

The first thing you'll notice about any Airfree air purifier is that it's really small, much smaller than even most compact air purifiers. Don't let the size fool you though. Despite the small, lightweight stature, this simple product can be a powerful tool against microbes. Simply plug it in the room you want to sanitize, and let it do its thing.

So what's going on inside the Airfree Onix? Buried inside the unit is a patented TSS ceramic heating element. This heats up to nearly 400° F, and as it warms, it creates a convection current that cycles air through the sanitizer. When microbes like bacteria, the flu virus, mold spores, or biological pathogens pass through it, the heat destroys, literally incinerating these microscopic particles, leaving behind clean, sanitized air.

I admit, it's a tough sell. Unlike other air purifiers, the Onix P3000 has not filters. The upside is you never have to worry about any maintenance or the cost and mess of replacing filters. The downside is you lose the satisfaction of seeing the results when you remove a dirty filter. How do you know it's working? You can either test the air for microbes or mold spores, or you can check out any one of the numerous test results for the Airfree. Unlike most air purifier manufacturers, Airfree has sent their products to labs on four different continents (Europe, Asia, North and South America). One organic food company was so impressed with the mold spore reduction, they purchased Airfree units for use in both divisions of their food company. You can find links to several of these at the bottom of this page. So while you lose the gratification of seeing a dirty filter, you save money, time, and get the piece of mind knowing that this machine is actually backed by numerous studies that all demonstrate how the Airfree removes mold, bacteria, and viruses from your indoor air.

Because the Airfree lacks a fan, it operates in complete silence, so it's ideal for any room, even the bedroom of light sleepers. Though it lacks a fan, it moves around 14 cubic meters of air per hour (test results below). So while some air is moving, the Airfree takes time to decontaminate a room. All testing shows that after about a week, mold, bacteria, viruses, and other microbes have dropped by roughly 80-95%.

The last thing you may notice is the light. The Onix P3000 has a soft blue, anti-stress light. While I'm unsure of the actual "anti-stress" properties, it does make a fine nightlight, and can be turned down or completely off with the small adjustable knob on the bottom of the machine.

Oh, I did want to mention two last things. First, while the heating element is extremely hot inside the unit, only warm air is emitted. It enters a cooling chamber before reentering your room and thus makes it extremely safe to use. Second, if you tip it over, no worries. It has a sensor built in that will turn the Airfree off if it's not positioned correctly. The blue light will also flash to let you know.

What I don't like about the Airfree Onix P3000

If you're looking to remove smoke, odors, and VOCs, I would consider another unit. The Airfree is designed to target biologicals, meaning bacteria, viruses, mold, fungi, and dust mites. With regard to these, it does exceptionally well, so the key to the Airfree is pairing it with your actual needs.

The only other thing I don't like about this unit is it takes time to work. A week is generally required for it to reduce microbes. Because it lacks a fan and relies on convection to circulate the air, it's a slow process. This also means, once you plug it in, leave it plugged in that room, running continuously, for best results. You shouldn't notice much of an impact on the power bill, as it draws only 52 watts.

As I've mentioned the key to the Airfree Onix P3000 air sanitizer is matching it with your specific needs. If you want to reduce mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and dust mites - quietly, inexpensively, and effectively, the Onix is worth considering. The test results speak for themselves, and the lack of any cost or time associated with maintenance or filter changes is a big plus. Great for the fall and winter months (to help fight the flu) or year round, the Airfree Onix air purifier is one of the easiest ways to clean your indoor air.
