As one of the Energy Star qualified Aprilaire dehumidifiers, the newly redesigned Aprilaire 1830 Whole House Dehumidifier is more compact, lightweight, and quieter than previous models. Ideal for small homes, condos or townhomes, the size and energy efficiency make this the perfect solution to spring and summer indoor humidity. Though the Aprilaire dehumidifier 1830 can be used as a stand-alone basement/crawlspace dehumidifier, take advantage of the included ducting collars and easy-to-use digital controls to tie the Aprilaire 1830 directly into your existing HVAC for whole home dehumidification and year round comfort. A MERV 8 air filter keeps the air cleaner, whether it's installed in your attic, closet or basement. As a step up from their previous whole home dehumidifiers, the 1830 now uses digital controls and retains the auto-restart and auto-defrost features that have made AprilAire dehumidifiers the convenient whole home drying solution. Aprilaire 1830 Dehumidifier
It has been several years since Aprilaire went through a major overhaul of its home dehumidifier line, but with the 1710A being the most popular crawlspace dehumidifier available and the larger 1770, 1750 and 1730 being the preferred choice for whole home dehumidification, it's not hard to see why they waited. Yet with this change Aprilaire managed to improve upon their design in several key areas. This new line of dehumidifiers is more compact, lighter, and features changes and suggestions from consumers and installers alike.
The AprilAire 1830 is the first model in their line of whole home dehumidifiers. Ideally suited for smaller homes, townhouses and condos, the lighter weight 1830 dehumidifier provides all the key features homeowners are looking for when solving humidity problems in the home. The 1830 is compact, energy efficient, durable, quiet, American made, and highly effective when it comes to removing excess moisture. When we dig a little deeper, these are the key things that set this Aprilaire home dehumidifier apart from the rest.
What I like about the Aprilaire 1830
Effective - With a moisture removal rate of 70 pints per day, the 1830 can deliver drier air to any part of your home. Once integrated into your existing HVAC structure, the 1830 can dry either air that is already inside the home or dry fresh air pulled in from outdoors, then distribute it throughout your home. When working with your air conditioner during warmer, more humid summer months, it can actually make your air conditioner's job easier by reducing the relative humidity and speeding the cooling process.
Energy Efficient - Not only is the Aprilaire 1830 dehumidifier Energy Star rated (which means it outperforms the average home dehumidifier by AT LEAST 15%) but instead of having the fan run 24/7, it now samples the air once per hour. So instead of wasting power with a continuously operating fan, the 1830 will sample the humidity once per hour then determine whether or not it needs to run, based on your specified set point.
More Advanced, Convenient Controls - Gone is the old rotary dial. The new 1830 whole home dehumidifier features an easy-to-read LCD screen and push button controls to give you the ability to set a specific relative humidity set point and even diagnose any potential problems you may encounter. The control panel also features a small plastic cover (that protects additional electrical connections) which lists all of the diagnostic codes right there for you. This is handy since it saves the trouble of having to dig up the users manual. The additional electrical connections under the cover can be used for a variety of things like connecting temperature sensors or a damper control if you opt to draw in fresh outdoor air to be dehumidified. By the power cord there is an On/Off switch, and the cord itself can be removed so it can be directly wired into your home's electrical system.
Quiet - Simply put, the compact 1830 is the quietest HVAC dehumidifier available on the market today. There is no whole home dehumidifier that produces less noise than this model.
Multiple Configurations - With a slim, lighter weight profile the 1830 is ideal for tight installations, like in an attic or closet. For situations like this, the added flexibility that this model provides can be a serious benefit. Need the dry air discharge to be from the top instead of the back? Not a problem. Need the control panel moved so it is mounted in the front instead of the top? Piece of cake! And when it comes to drainage, you can port a 3/4" PVC drain line directly into the unit or use an adapter and barbed connector to drain away the condensate with 1/2" flexible hose. You can duct this model with the supplied 10" ducting flanges or simply use it as a crawlspace dehumidifier. When you factor in the ability to dry indoor air or pull in outdoor air as well as the ability to use this dehumidifier in conjunction with a wired remote control, it's clear that the 1830 provides more versatility than any other home dehumidifier available.
Like all Aprilaire dehumidifiers and unlike most you'll find on the market today, the 1830 is made right here in the USA.
Other features of this model include auto restart after a power outage, auto defrost, and a MERV 8 air filter with a reminder indicator on the LCD display. Lastly, the steel construction and five year warranty add durability and peace of mind, respectively.
As a few notes, you will likely want to have an HVAC professional install this unit, particularly if you want to pull in fresh outdoor air to dry, if you want to use a separate, hardwired remote control unit of if tying into your existing HVAC simply isn't something you have experience with.
You may also note that the CFM on this model is lower than what you find with some of the larger dehumidifiers. Worry not. First, this unit was designed for smaller homes and doesn't require the power that very large dehumidifiers do. Second, because the AprilAire 1830 works with your HVAC, it can rely upon your HVAC blower and air conditioner to do most of the air distribution (particularly since that's exactly what these were designed for - moving large amounts of air through your home).
Provided you match this dehumidifier with the size of home it is intended for, you can't miss with the Aprilaire 1830 whole home dehumidifier. It's lightweight, compact, energy efficient, quiet, and very effective in controlling indoor humidity without having to buy a room dehumidifier for each room in your home. With an expected lifespan of 15 years, the 1830 is the hassle-free way to keep your home more comfortable all year round.
