Product Review: M1 Housewash
On Saturday, the dreaded day had come: it was time to catch up on my house cleaning. In preparation for my epic day of winter cleaning, I had armed myself with a bottle of M1 House Wash. I was eager to test its powers. First: the preparation. It comes in a pour bottle, so to use it, you'll probably need a spray bottle of some sort. Luckily, I had a spray cleaner bottle from the grocery store that was on its last leg, so I dumped the last tablespoon of cleaner out and filled the spray bottle up with M1 House Wash instead. It reminded me of cleaning the bathrooms as a kid – my mom always used this type of dilutable cleaner, since it was so economical. The M1 House Wash bottle comes with a tag that explains how to best use the cleaner for 35 different applications. Most of the normal household applications called for an 8:1 dilution with water, so I decided to go this route. I recommend having several clear spray bottles on hand and labeling them according to different dilutions. For example, 3:1 Housewash (for heavy duty applications like barbecue grills, pet odors, etc) 8:1 Housewash (for normal household cleaning), and 64:1 Housewash (for mirrors, chrome, and other shiny surfaces). Pretty cool – one cleaner for everything. Anyway, having mixed my 8:1 cleaner, I started with the bathroom. The cleaner worked great on the sinks, countertops, toilet, etc. I also used it to clean the bathtub and it worked pretty well, but I think I will stick with an abrasive cleaner in the tub for the future. Then I moved on to the kitchen. Kitchen counters, stove top, etc. The cleaner did an extremely impressive job on the microwave, which was dirtier than I like to admit. My main worry about the cleaner was that it would have a bad smell, as its bright yellow appearance made it look lemony. As I am very sensitive to chemical fragrances and smells, I am pretty picky about cleaners, especially in a small area like the bathroom. However, the M1 Housewash does not have an irritating smell. It is not completely odorless, but the smell is very faint and did not bother me. In conclusion: The M1 House Wash will probably not replace ALL your cleaners if you like to use scouring powder, and it takes a little bit of initial effort to mix and set up. However, it is an extremely economical cleaner which will last for a long time. The 32 oz bottle may seem a bit pricey at $11.99, but for normal household use it dilutes to 2 gallons, a steal compared to Fantastic-type cleaners you can find at the grocery store. It's a great cleaner to have on hand, as you can really use it on just about every surface imaginable. I still have to try it out on my coffee pot, laundry, gutters, the inside of the car, and the rest of the 35 uses. Fortunately, I still have quite a bit left. : )
