  Big disappointment

Requires constant, messy cleaning of filters and insides to prevent loss of suction. Even then, a bit over a year into ownership, suction failed entirely - although the motor is as annoyingly loud as ever. Not worth fixing even under the warranty, as it's such a nuisance to use. The extension hose for stairs, for instance, usually topples the vacuum over. Went and bought a Miele to replace it. The Miele is quiet, clean, and displays real engineering skill. A total contrast.
Did I mention my wife hated the Dyson from the start? Definitely not built for smaller women to use comfortably.

Honestly, I liked the commercials for the Dyson ball, but my wife did not like the look of the ball. We comprised on this. We vacuum alot so we empty it alot. It does flatten out to get under furniture pretty well.

What I liked about the Dyson DC14
I like the way that the vacuum attachments fit onto this vacuum. They are snug to the
vacuum body so you do not always bump them on furniture and things. This might seem like a small thing except that you can scuff up walls
and furniture pretty easily.
This vacuum has a lot of power like the previous Dyson DC07, but it is a little smaller and a little quieter. I like this vacuum, because
it is very durable and will stand up to the rigors of weekly, maybe daily, use.
One problem I always have with my own vacuum is that I do not know when to change the dust bag. With this vacuum, you do not have that
problem. There are no dust bags to deal with on a Dyson. Secondly, you have a clear dust bin that makes it possible for you to see the
amount of dust accumulated. The clear bin is easily emptied by pressing a single button.
What I did not like about the Dyson DC14
This is kind of a trivial complaint, but the switch that turns off the brush-roll
when you move from vacuuming carpet to hardwood floors is hard to work with your foot. You have to bend over and use your hand to manipulate
the switch. Vacuum is good but not great on hard surfaces.
One thing that you could complain about is that the Dyson DC14 needs to be
emptied more often than other vacuums. The dirt cup does have a very large capacity. Also, because Dyson is a bagless vacuum, you must
be extra careful when emptying the contents so that you just do not release a bunch of dust back into the air or onto the floor.
I would almost recommend taking the vacuum outside to release the dust into a garbage receptacle.
