Customer Q & A
Q1: Is it safe to use the pet allergy shampoo on a dog that's been treated with K-9 Advantix flea control? I'm concerned the flea control ingredients in the shampoo may be harmful to my pet when Advantix is also used monthly.
A: Hopefully, if you're using the Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo, you won't have to continue to use Advantix. Products like Advantix and Frontline essentially use a pesticide that is absorbed in the dogs skin. Fleas bite the dog, suck the blood then die from the poison. It takes about 30 days for the dogs kidneys to filter the toxin out which is why you have to reapply the flea treatment every month.
The main ingredient in the Pet Shampoo is Neem tree oil. If you do a little research you'll find that it's been used as pesticide and insect repellent for hundreds of years. It's safe to use and aside from uses in the pet shampoo, it's also used as a moisturizer and in a variety of lotions and soaps. It naturally repels fleas and other insects and won't cause damage to the kidneys or liver like the chemicals used in common pesticides/insecticides.
So with regular bathing with the Pet Shampoo, hopefully you won't have to worry about a separate treatment for fleas.
If you have fleas you can use the Dust Mite and Flea Control, but you do have to be patient and persistent if you have an infestation. The bug must eat the DM&FC in order to die. The adult flea eats only blood so you can't kill it, but the Neem oil from the shampoo will repel them. Fortunately, the adult stage in a fleas life is short. Young fleas will actually eat the dust mite and flea control and die. But, a flea egg can lie dormant for up to a year, so you'll have to apply it at six month intervals to ensure you've rid the carpet, upholstery, etc. of them.
