screws, remove the screen cartridge and slide a new on in! Simple and easy, it takes only a few minutes and a Phillips head screwdriver to replace. Both filters

No assembly and very easy to use. Seem to be very a well made product as far serving the purpose it is intended for. The packaging was a recycled brown paper and I was appreciative of this since other companies that use that crumbley styrofoam are not realizing how big of a mess this causes when opening packages, so I assume that this company is environmentally aware and responsible.

Q1: Do these filters block out chemical odors from outside or are they just for pollen? When my neighbors do wash, burn wood in their backyard pits or spray their lawns, I can't have the windows open because of MCS. It's hard to let the fresh air in when there isn't any. Thanks!
A: Particles only. While some components of wood smoke and other chemicals are large enough to be trapped by particle filtration, such as that used by these filters, the majority of the pollutants that make up chemicals or smoke is not. These particles need to be adsorbed with carbon or oxidized to be removed or rendered inert. So if you do use the window filters you may still notice odors/chemicals passing through.
Q2: How often do you need to change these?
A: Every 6 to 12 months, but this will vary depending on your location and the level of pollution in the air and time of year. In areas where pollen is heavier or pollution is more prevalent, you will want to lean towards 6 months. For most other places, an annual change will suffice. In the coming months, look for replacement cartridges for these filters to appear on our site. You simple remove the end cap, slide out the old cartridge and slide a new on in.

Safeguard Window Filter
The Safeguard Window Filter are a great invention! I love keeping my
windows open when the weather is nice outside, especially when I
sleep. However, I suffer from seasonal allergies, and in the spring
and fall when the weather is nice, the pollen is a problem. That is
why I love these filters. I can leave my windows open so fresh cool
air comes in, but dust and pollen stay outside.
It was not difficult to install. I just left my regular screens in place, opened the
window high enough to fit the filter, expanded the filter to the
required length, and then lowered the window to hold the filter in
place. The vinyl around the edges did a great job of sealing so that
bugs could not get in. It even keeps out rain!
To clean the filter,
simply take it outside and vacuum it off with a HEPA vacuum cleaner. You can generally do this a couple times before having to replace the
filter media catridge all together. By removing two screws on each end, you can remove the plastic end cap and pull the entire screen
cartridge out and replace it with a new one. While conditions will vary greatly depending on your location and time of year, we recommend you replace the
cartridge every 6 months to a year in places were pollen or allergens are not high. And during allergy season you will likely want to
replace the filter catridge every 3 months or sooner, depending on severity.
While these filters do not allow air to flow as freely though them as a traditional screen, the upside is they
do allow air to pass while keeping most rain out. The filter media and screen mesh prevents large particles as well as pollen
and other allergens from entering the home. They help keep your house cool during transitional months by allowing air to pass while
preventing outdoor allergens in at a time when they are at their peak. For places where pollen is heavy and coats everything in a
fine yellow-green powder, Safeguard window filters allow you to keep your windows open without having to dust and vacuum up pollen every day.
