Letter From The Editor

Dear Fellow Allergy Sufferers,

I am so excited about this month’s article on SLIT allergy treatment. I strongly believe SLIT shows promise to change the way allergies are treated in the United States. SLIT stands for sublingual immunotherapy and is the same as allergy shots except without the shots. Instead of going to your allergist and getting a shot, you simply place a few drops under your tongue at home. SLIT is relatively new in the US and is not yet FDA approved. However, it has been used all over the world for a century! After failing allergy shot programs twice, I find SLIT allergy treatment compelling and want to learn more.

This month we also end our famous people with allergies series with Theodore Roosevelt, who was perhaps my favorite president. TR’s zest for life and learning and his accomplishments are very admirable and should serve as a role model for all of us. TR overcame so much, including severe asthma and both his wife and mother passing away on the same day.

Lastly, please take a few moments to glance over our holiday gift guide. I encourage you to give the healthy gift of clean air and better breathing this holiday season!
