The Blueair 603 is a large room air purifier, similar to the Blueair 503. The 603 features all of the standards that have made Blueair air purifiers some of the most popular among allergy and asthma sufferers or those simply wanting a cleaner home environment. Aesthetically the 603 is similar to the rest of the Blueair line. Maintenance and the dimensions are identical to that of the 503. Where the 603 separates itself in largely in cleaning capacity.

The 603 will cover approximately 80 more sq. ft. than the 503, at the same air exchange rate per hour (5). A slightly different fan design allows for the greater coverage and slightly improved results in the CADR test. In CADR testing the 603 ranges from 400 to more than 450. Since AHAM's testing methods max out at different numbers, for pollen and dust particle filtration, the 603 is as good as it gets.

What I like about the Blueair 603

As a cornerstone of the Blueair brand, the filtration is likely the selling point of this unit. In addition to the high Clean Air Delivery Rates, the patented HEPASilent filtration captures 99.7% of particles 0.1 microns and larger. This exceeds HEPA standards. The combination of the filter media with the optional ionizer increases the filtration capabilities of the 603 without producing ozone.

It is attractive. The neutral off-white blends in seamlessly with most walls, and the sleek contemporary curves of the design give it a little more aesthetic appeal than most air purifiers.

It is quiet. The first two fan settings are so quiet you can barely hear them. The highest fan setting is a little noisy, but it works fine when you are out of the house, outside of the room, or doing a loud activity like cleaning or playing music. The knob on the simply styled operation panel makes it easy to turn it from speed to speed, so it’s no problem to switch it from higher to lower as you leave and enter the room, just like switching on the light.

It is economical. On the lowest fan speed, the Blueair 603 consumes about 35 power watts, less than a light bulb. Even on the highest speed it is energy efficient, only consuming about 120 watts. You can run the air purifier all the time without worrying about the electric bill.

Casters make this unit easier to move around, and filter replacement is simple - requiring no tools.

What I do not like about the Blueair 603

While the 603 does offer optional smoke and odor filtration with the SmokeStop filters, the actual amount of active carbon could be higher, more in line with Austin, IQAir or AllerAir models. Large amounts of carbon greatly increase an air purifiers ability to filter chemicals, odors, smoke and gases. The SmokeStop filters are a decided advantage over lesser models that simply employ a foam/mesh like activated carbon filter/prefilter, but overall, they could be better.

In summary,the Blueair 603 offers the same great features as the 503 with slightly better filtration results and a larger filtration capacity. It is attractive and quiet and can significantly improve the air quality in any room in your home.
