Friedrich Air Conditioning has roots as a longhorn furniture
store opened by Ed Friedrich in San Antonio, TX in 1883. The San
Antonio Museum of Art still houses some of the original furniture.
Ed Friedrich developed many innovative products including store
fixtures, wood billiard tables, fine-carved cabinetry, and
eventually salt brine freezer cases, which were the forerunners of
modern refrigeration systems.
Friedrich’s sons, George and Richard, joined the family business
and helped develop a new type of mechanical refrigeration. The
