IQAir HealthPro Air Purifier
What I like about the IQ Air HealthPro
The IQAir HealthPro can be an important piece of the puzzle when it comes to controlling allergens in and around your home. The HealthPro offers a variety of
standard features that compliment its world class particle filtration to provide cleaner air, free of allergens like pet dander, pollen, mold spores, and
dust mite allergen. With a sample model in tow, this model was tested, in-home, by one of our pet owning staffers, and here's what we found.
One of the first thing's you'll notice when opening any IQAir air purifier is that right on top, with the manual and remote, is a certificate
that is handwritten, confirming that the model you have standing in front of you has been individually tested (results listed). No other manufacturer
we work with individually certifies each unit with its own certificate).
To test this, I ran a particle counter in the my bedroom. This gave me a baseline reading of a little over 2 million particle (0.3 microns to 30 microns).
After snapping the casters in place, inspecting my unit and thumbing through the manual, I plugged the HealthPro in and began set up.
The controls for the IQAir can look a little intimidating, especially if you haven't read through the manual yet, but a big positive to them is that, in reality,
you have a choice. You can take advantage of the programming features like changing the language and setting the HealthPro to run on a certain schedule, OR you
simply turn it on to the setting you want and just walk away, done!
So more than anything, the controls give you versatility and options that are there if you
want them and easily ignored if you don't. For the IQAir Health Pro I had, I set it to run on a schedule, particularly since my bedroom is not very large, and
I wanted to see how well it would do without having to run 24/7.
The IQ Air Health Pro uses three different waves to ensure that the airflow is consistent and the system truly sealed. Each filter is sealed between
the actual filter media and the frame of each filter. Next, the frame of each filter seats into a plastic
knife-edge inside each compartment. Then each individual compartment has a similar edge design that keeps them in line and seals. These three seals work to ensure
that that air leaks through the system and that air flows correctly with no mixing.
Upon initially starting the unit, I again tested the particle count, this time at the base of the HealthPro. My reading was nearly identical to the one I took in the
room shortly before (+2,000,000 particles). Testing the air outlet, that reading dropped to 0 in a matter of seconds. This was promising but a more real measure of
the particle filtration would come from retesting the air in the room. After 1 hour the reading in the room had dropped to less than 40,000, and when measuring at the 2 hour
mark, that reading had flatlined at 0. Aside from anectdotal evidence of allergy relief (no AM sneezing fits or less visible dust on the shelves), this
showed a real, measurable improvement in the air quality in that room.(As a note, all doors and windows in that room were closed while testing)
The casters were a nice addition since it made it easier for me to move the unit from my tile living room onto the hardwood in my bedroom. On carpet, the movement isn't quite
as smooth, but it beats having to pick the unit up and carry it.
The five year warranty is good for an air purifier, though pretty much in line with similarly priced models.
What I do not like about the IQ Air HealthPro
Lack of odor control - The base HealthPro unit has nothing to target odors. The flip side of this is that at any time I can upgrade the HealthPro and make
it a HealthPro Plus with just the addition of a V5 Filter. With it I can filter things like smoke, odors, and chemical vapors. Should I ever feel like I don't need
odor control and longer, I can always simply drop the V5 filter and still have the same great particle filtration.
Initial Cost. IQAir HealthPro air purifiers come with a higher than average initial cost. This might scare away some people, but cost is really
reflective of the product. The filtration is better than HEPA. It's a truly sealed system, and the HealthPro is customizable. You also have to
consider the brand. IQAir is a leader in air filtration, and four years from now, if you have a problem, IQAir is still going to be here.
The same may not be true for some less expensive competitors.
Overall, I was pleased with the results of the IQAir HealthPro air purifier. The test results as well the overall user experience was one that left me satisfied with
this air purifier and its ability to live up to its stated claims. The HealthPro offers luxury features such as the programmable control panel, real-time filter
life analysis, a digital interface and an easy to use remote control as well as basic essentials like a sealed system and casters. For allergy or asthma sufferers
who are most concerned with particle allergens, the IQAir HealthPro is a great choice. Though a little pricey for some, the HealthPro is a
quality allergy air purifier well suited for anyone who is concerned about the air they breathe.
