The masks I purchased for my gymnastics facilities pit cleaning weekend worked gloriously!! From purchase, to shipping, and then to use the process and the product were great!!

It has been great. Much better results from outside activities. More time outside much less sneezing inside after being outside for a much longer time.

I'm a long term asthma and allergy sufferer. I spend a great deal of time indoors to avoid pollen. I have used the dust masks found in hardware stores but they are less than effective. The 3M 8210 Mask fits much tighter to my face and seems to be much more effective in that I can endure being outdoors for longer periods of time with much less allergy discomfort. Thank you for a great product.

Customer Q & A

Q1: The filters did not come in a box or with any instructions. How many times can I wear one mask for yard work or house cleaning?

A: Typically, a few. This varies based on what you're using it for and how heavy the particulate is that you're filtering. Generally a dust mask like this is meant for one a few uses before you toss it. If you notice "breakthrough", meaning particles passing through the mask or if the mask decreases in breathabililty, it's time to replace. From personal experience, I will often use it say three times when mowing the yard, and this would generally be the most uses before tossing when it's dry and mowing kicks up a lot of dust. I know this is all a bit subjective, but I hope it helps!

Q2: I recently ordered from another supplier a box of these respirators. They had a very strong chemical/glue odor around the foam nose piece so I returned them. Then I bought a 2-pack of the same product from a hardware store. No chemical odor on the foam but the elastics have a very strong odor which is overwhelming when wearing the mask. I have severe allergies that can be triggered by scents and I am afraid to use these masks now. What are the elastics made of? Vinyl? Rubber? I have used these 3M respirators successfully in the past so am discouraged that they now seem to be made with materials that emit an odor. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?

A: Their is no natural rubber latex in the straps. I'm pretty sure that is missing from all 3M products to avoid latex allergies. Instead they use a synthetic latex that lacks the allergen contained in natural rubber latex. That, however, is often where any odor comes from. As far as defeating the purpose, it really depends on the mask. The 8210 is designed for removal of particulate, not necessarily odors or chemical vapors. For that, the 8247. This actually might be your best option. That one has some activated carbon in the filter media to adsorb odors. Plus, the straps are elastic, not the synthetic latex. If particulates are the issues, you might try the 8233 instead. It offers better particle filtration and the straps are elastic, so no latex or synthetic latex. The other option might to be use the 8210 but after it has sat for a couple days. You can take it out of the package, stretch the bands a bit and allow it to sit. That may allow for the odor to dissipate some. It can be tricky, particular with odors and scents and even slight changes in the materials used, but I hope that helps!

N95 Mask Reviews

3M 8210 Dust and Pollen Mask

If you work out in the yard, down in your crawl space, up in your attic, or anywhere where its going to be nasty and dirty, the 3M 8210 Dust and Pollen Mask is for you. I have used this mask for all the above applications, and found that it works great. Best of all, when you are done with the job, and you and the mask are filthy, you can toss it in the trash can. I stockpile these masks at home and use them when I trim, blow leaves, or have to get under the crawlspace and fix something. Not only do they do a great job of filtering the air, but the air also feels warmer to me, making it much easier to breath during the fall and winter months.

These 3M masks are a great way to keep particles out of the air you breathe with little expense or worry.

What I like about the 3M 8210 Dust & Pollen Mask:
  • Very inexpensive
  • Very effective
  • Meet N95 NIOSH filtration standards
  • Disposable
  • Fits nearly any face
What I don't like about the 3M 8210 Dust & Pollen Mask:
  • Not true HEPA quality
  • Not meant to be used repeatedly
In summary, if you need a good, inexpensive personal filtration system, you cannot lose with the 3M 8210 Dust and Pollen Mask. Just know that it is designed for only one or two uses and only offers basic, yet effective N95 particle filtration.

Could not wait to try Safeguard Window Filters. I am using them, am very pleased and have high hopes that my solution to open windows is at hand!
