Q1: Is the miele Quartz S6270 Vacuum Cleaner good to clean wood curtains?
Thanks!
A: Yes. For that matter, any Miele would work just fine with dusting wood curtains and blinds. You may want to adjust the suction level down a bit, and possibly have someone hold the bottom of the curtain or blind to steady and make it easier for you to clean. I would recommend the included dusting brust attachment.
If you want to finish up a bit quicker, you might purchase the Universal Swivel Brush. It offers a wider row of bristles and can be turned to any angle.
If the wood is easily scratched or very delicate, you might look to Natural Dusting Brush. It can be found on the same page as the Swivel Brush. Though indentical to the included dusting brush with your Quartz, the bristles of the Natural Dusting Brush are horsehair instead of synthetic.
Q2: I had decided to buy a Polaris model but am advised it has been discontinued. Was advise that the Quartz is replacement. What are the differences? Thanks.
A: Yes. The Polaris and the S4 line has finally run its course.
Their are a few differences between the Quartz and the Polaris, but for the most part, they are VERY similar vacuums. The S6 line was introduced to replace the S4 models, so they share many of the same features sealed system, combo floor tools, mini accessories, FJM bags. The main differences are a slightly redesigned combo tool has bristles all the way around instead of that rubber sweep along the back edge, as well as some minor aesthetic differences Quartz has the brushed aluminum trim, embossed logos, rotary dial that clicks into place. The Quartz also has the one touch cord rewind. So instead of holding the cord rewind button down, you press it once and it fully retracts. Aside from these, in addition to the color and slight body styling changes, these two vacuums are functionally, identical.

9/2/12 The Dyson DC24 is the most amazing vacuum I have ever tried! It is so light-weight and easy to use but has three times the strength of any vacuum I have ever handled. I love it!

As more of an introductory Miele S6 vacuum cleaner, the Miele Quartz represents all of the basic features that have made Miele
so popular. From durable, lightweight construction to quiet, easy operation, the Miele Quartz represents some of the best in
vacuum cleaner technology. With a sample model in hand, we compared the Miele Quartz to the other models in the Miele S6 line.
What I like about the Miele Quartz
For the Miele Quartz, it is all about 'back to basics'. The Quartz represents the introductory model to the S6 line of
Miele's. While you may not find some of the attachments you see in the Topaz, the Miele Quartz showcases the
Vortex motor and powerful suction. The redesigned 1200W Vortex motor generates the same powerful suction while
producing less noise than previous models. This German power plant is tested to last for two decades, and Miele has given
the Vortex and industry-leading 7 year warranty.
When it comes to cleaning, the Quartz is right at home on smooth flooring. With the bristles extended, the combination floor
tool acts like the signature Miele Twister, loosening debris and removing it with powerful suction. On low pile carpet or rugs,
the felt strips work loose soil. For those with predominantly smooth floors, this combination tool is a handy accessory to have.
For allergy and asthma sufferers, the Quartz features the Air Clean filter, pre-motor filter, Air Clean filter bag and a sealed system. Each piece
plays a specific role in not only cleaning your floors but also the air in your home. Vacuums work on the principle of a motor creating suction,
pulling air through the vacuum. As the air flows through the vacuum, debris is captured in the bag. Miele believes that your vacuum should not just
remove large particles but also the very fine particles that can be most damaging to your lungs.
A durable ABS body and skeleton construction allows the Quarts to be durable and resistant to wear and tear all while being lightweight. The one-touch
self winding cord is a recent innovation, as is the slight styling changes, including the redesign of the compartment latch, logos, and outer shell. The
Quartz uses Miele FJM bags, which are spring loaded and self-sealing for convenience and hygiene. And now, thanks to Miele earning the
Good Housekeeping seal of approval, the Miele Quartz is covered by a full 2 year warranty on parts and labor.
What I do not like about the Miele Quartz
With the Miele Quartz you are starting to climb in price in terms of the canister vacuum cleaners. But, Miele is a top of
the line brand which produces durable, quality products. To balance the initial cost, if you get the estimated 20
years out of this Miele, you will have saved hundreds of dollars over buying a cheaper model.
For pet owners, you'll likely want to consider upgrading to the Miele Active Clean filter which packs activated
carbon in the filter to adsorb odors. For larger areas of carpet, I recommend moving up to the STB 205-3. The
combo tool is serviceable, but it has its limitations.
In summary, the suction and filtration provide allergy and asthma sufferers with what they need most in a vacuum.
The performance truly captures all of the debris and allergens in your home. When you purchase a Miele Quartz, you're
not just buying a vacuum for today or next year - you're purchasing a home appliance that can give up two decades of reliable
cleaning ability. And that kind of value is nothing to sneeze at!
