Santa Fe RX Dehumidifier - A Closer Look

    Filtration Options

With the purchase of an additional housing that bolts to the back of the Santa Fe Rx, you effectively expand the air filtration capability of this dehumidifier. You now have two additional air filtration options, a true HEPA filter for particles like pollen, dander, dust, and other allergens or an activated carbon filter that targets odors, smoke, and gaseous pollutants in your home or office.

HEPA Filter - Capturing 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger, the optional HEPA filter provides additional filtration of common household and office particle pollutants. The HEPA filter does NOT replace the MERV 13 filter that comes standard with the Santa Fe Rx. Instead, it effectively acts as a prefilter and helps to extend the life of the optional HEPA filter. Both work together to essential turn this dehumidifier into a dehumidifier and air purifier in one!

Activated Carbon Filter - With granulated, activated carbon and a blend of potassium permanganate, this filter is specifically designed to remove smoke, odors, and gas pollutants in your home or office. This could be chemicals from printers used in your office, cooking odors or simply tobacco smoke. Again, this filter is used in conjunction with the MERV 13 filter.

Here's a helpful tip! If you are using the carbon filter, you can easily know when it's time to replace it by simply looking at the color of the filter media. The media starts as black and will lighten in color as it adsorbs smoke, odors and chemicals. It will change from black to brown and ultimately to white. As it whitens, it is time to replace the filter.

    Santa Fe Rx Dehumidifiers Reviews
    Santa Fe Rx Dehumidifier

For use in living areas, a traditional crawlspace or basement dehumidifier has a few drawbacks. Size, weight, noise, and look are the biggest problems with trying to adapt these units for use in living spaces. Add in the fact that many room dehumidifiers simply aren't built to last, and the annual cost can quickly add up. Additionally, using a room dehumidifier in a commercial setting like an office presents challenges as well. You want a model that is quiet, unobtrusive, effective and blends into any decor. As the only Santa Fe model specifically designed for use in living spaces and office environments, the Rx might be just the prescription you're looking for. Bad puns aside, let's take a look at what makes the Santa Fe Rx dehumidifier a unique choice for the home or office.

What I like about the Santa Fe Rx

Water Removal - At 74 pints per day, the Santa Fe Rx is right in line with most room dehumidifiers. This type of water removal gives you the ability to tackle homes or offices where conditions are naturally humid or where old HVAC systems simply have a difficult time keeping the space cool. Removing excess moisture helps cool any indoor space for two reasons. First, it allows moisture to evaporate more quickly, and how quickly this process occurs largely informs how our body perceives heat. Secondly, moisture holds warmth. More humid air retains heat better than dry air, and removing the moisture allows for a more cooling process.

Style & Construction - Simple, unmarked and inconspicuous. These are three good terms to describe the Rx. The cabinet-style design is unadorned and simple, and while it may lack some flair, this allows it to sit in any room, in your home or office without looking out of place. The Rx is also fairly quiet. The sound insulation quiets the unit, and compared to other room dehumidifiers it is right on par or quieter. The body of the Rx is steel, and that means it is built to handle the rigors of use throughout any home or office without worry of breaking or cracking the plastic or it becoming brittle or discolored when exposed to the sun. Lastly, the casters are a big help. As a heavy dehumidifier, the casters give you the mobility that's needed at home or in the office to locate the Rx exactly where you need the excess humidity and moisture removed. Not to mention, the casters help offset the weight of the Rx.

Condensate Pump - Condensate pumps almost NEVER come standard with a room dehumidifier. They are always additional expense, and even when you do purchase one, the pump is never integrated neatly inside the unit, like it is with the Santa Fe Rx dehumidifier. The pump eliminates one really big problem and adds a lot of convenience. With this setup there are no heavy water buckets to empty. You simply run the drain line to the nearest drain or even into the existing condensate line from your HVAC. The pump can push water horizontally or vertically, giving the Rx the ability to be placed and used nearly anywhere, conveniently.

Adaptable - All Santa Fe dehumidifiers are versatile and adaptable. Most come with the ability to add a condensate pump, casters, or duct them as needed. All also come with robust air filtration, a minimum of MERV 8 filtration for any models with many equipped with MERV 13 particle filters. Since the Santa Fe Rx dehumidifier already comes with three of the four options I listed, what could they improve upon? The answer is air filtration. Because the Rx is designed for use in living spaces and offices, Santa Fe designed the ability add on a separate filter housing for a true HEPA filter OR activated carbon filters to work along with the included MERV 13 filter. So the way this works is a housing will bolt onto the back of the Rx. Then within that housing you can install either a HEPA filter or a carbon filter that is blended with potassium permanganate. This is a very similar mix to what IQAir uses in their MultiGas units and V5 filters - very effective for odors, smoke and gas vapor pollutants in the air. So you could have the best of both worlds, reduced indoor humidity AND cleaner indoor air. If particles are the problem, go with the HEPA filter (which when used with the already installed MERV 13 filter, should last you several years). If odors, chemical vapors or smoke are and issue, pair the MERV 11 with the carbon filter.

Santa Fe Standards - This involves several things that make Santa Fe unique amongst the glut of home and office dehumidifiers. In no particular order, steel construction for durability, Energy Star qualified, easy-to-use controls, made right here in the U.S.A., and a 6 Year Full Manufacturer Warranty (refrigeration system/parts and labor, respectively).
