I was getting a jump on the season and started looking to replace my old dehumidifier. Up until now I have bought consumer models for large rooms but this time I wanted something more industrial that would last longer than a year or two. I saw the Aprilaire 1710 and though it was little more than I was thinking of spending but after adding up what I’ve spent over the last few years it should balance out. The auto restart is a great feature since I've noticed during the summer we occasionally have power issues and the recent storms that rolled through knocked out power for some people for days. The casters are great for this unit and it's more than large enough to keep my entire basement dry. I’m happy with the job it’s doing and look forward to many more years of service.

Aprilaire 1710 is a excellent unit for your basement if you live in the mountains where it is always damp I found this unit works just wonderfully. While doing research for a dehumidifier I was looking for something that was quiet and powerful. My basement is about 1500 sq feet which is great for company but cold and damp in the winter. The Aprilaire 1710 is portable but high capacity and no messy buckets. I found a winner with this unit.

What I like about the Aprilaire 1710:
The best feature of this dehumidifier is that it is portable and powerful.
I can move it around my basement very easily. It is a sturdy unit, but it fits in with a furnished basement as well.
An internal humidistat
will automatically sense moisture levels to maintain optimal humidity levels and and control dampness,
mildew, mold, fungi, dust mites and odors. The 1710 model operates
down to 40°F and effectively removes 90 pints of moisture per day
for areas up to 2000 square feet with no messy buckets or tanks to
empty.
What I did not like about the Aprilaire 1710:
As with all Aprilaire
dehumidifiers, I wish it had a hygrometer on board rather than just
a 15 position turn knob. This model does come with casters (wheels)
so you can move it around your basement.
In summary, if I needed a powerful and portable Aprilaire
dehumidifier for my basement or crawlspace, I would buy this unit.
