Love this vacuum! It is light and powerful when you need it. I just replaced carpeting with hardwood floors and was looking for the best vacuum for hardwoods. I think I have found a winner. It also works great on my small rugs. So glad I found the Miele Polaris.

Only had the Miele Polaris for a for a month but really like it so far.
It's light weight and super quiet, the whole house is wood floors it does a really good job, I added the HEPA filter it's easy to breath even when the vacuum is on. I would recommend it to anyone with wood floors and low rugs. The price may seem high but the vacuum is well made and I fully expect it to out last other brands available at big box stores which is just what I wanted. I would defiantly make another purchase at achooallergy in the future I was surprised how quickly the vacuum arrived.

As an allergy sufferer and a person who prides herself on having a clean house, I find the Miele Polaris Vacuum Cleaner as the best vacuum I have owned. I have tried many vacuum cleaners, i.e, Hoover, Shark, Riccar and Kenmore and my Miele Polaris is the best. I can't believe how quiet it is and how great it cleans. I have used a swiffer after I vacuum and there is no dirt. With other vacuums I have to swifter at least twice to get the floors clean. I have hardwood floors throughout my home and the ease of use of the Miele makes the job of cleaning a breeze. Another note, I can actually hear the tv while vacuuming. Thanks again for a great product!

Q1: Hi, is their a big difference between the vacuums WITH the hepa and the miele "sealed system" and the vacuums with the hepa but WITHOUT the "sealed system" for people with bad allergies to dust mites?
A: There is some difference and without the sealed system, and without it, you won't see the filtration results in which Miele vacuums far surpass comparable brands like Dyson, Riccar, SEBO, etc. For allergy and asthma sufferers your best choice is a sealed system vacuum cleaner. Any vacuum without the rubber seals and gaskets to seal the the pathway in which air flows through the vacuum can allow dirty air to mix, and for the best results, air should pass through the 9 ply Miele dust back and finally through the Active HEPA filter. So HEPA but no sealed system is good, but HEPA with a sealed system is best for allergy sufferers. All Miele S4, S5, and S7 vacuums come with the sealed system. The only models that do not are the S2 canisters.
Q2: Is this a good canister vacuum for the removal of cat hair?
A: This depends on two things, the type of flooring you are cleaning and if you are cleaning furniture as well. With the smooth floothing, pet hair is handled by any Miele vacuum with ease. If you are tackling some low to medium pile rugs or carpet you'll need to opt for, at a minimum, a model with the STB 205-3, like the Miele Capri. If the carpet is more subtantial, you would be better suited jumping up another level to the a Miele with the SEB 217-3, like the Miele Delphi. For upholstered furniture, the Miele STB 101 fits any Miele upright or canister. It comes standard only with the Miele Cat & Dog.

Miele Polaris S4212 Vacuum Cleaners
The S4212 Polaris is a part of Mieles S4 Galaxy series. The galaxy
series of vacuums has been awarded a rating of excellent air
quality by an independent institute that monitors air quality. This
light blue vacuum from Miele is a straight suction vacuum cleaner
that can be used on either low pile carpets or smooth floors. A
rotary dial with small pictures on the canister provides easy
suction control ranging from 200 to 1200 Watts. There is an electrostatic filter that will capture more allergens
than your average vacuum cleaner. This Super Air Clean filter is
made up a multi-ply material that is charged to retain dust
particles. The filter lasts as long as 5 dust bags (approximately one year).
What I like about the Miele Polaris
One of the best attributes of the Miele canister vacuums is that
changing the bag is simple and clean. You do not have to remove the
bag in a way to avoid making another mess. The new AirClean bags are an improved design above the already excellent Intensive Clean
model of other Miele canister vacuums. These bags feature 9 ply construction with a spring-loaded, self-sealing collar to keep
allergens and dirt trapped while changing the bags. The built in air flow guides within the bag maximize airflow and increase bag
capacity up to 25%. An inner and outer netting also increases this bags tear-proof properties. Each series of bags also has color
coded collars to help avoid confusion. For the FJM style bags usded in the Polaris, look for a red collar. All these features work
to make the Miele Polaris one of the cleanest vacuum cleaners on the market today.
The Polaris comes with a universal floor tool for smooth flooring and
low pile carpet. You can change surfaces very easily with a click of
a switch. On the bottom of the floor tool, there are wide
thread lifters that help collect dirt and dust.
The Polaris has a long cord that gives you a 33 foot cleaning radius from the
outlet. If you need to change floors or rooms, the Polaris is
portable and light. The floor tool fits onto the wand holder and you can pick
the vacuum cleaner up with one hand. Your other hand is left free to
hold onto railings, open doors, etc. The hose, wand, and floor tool
are securely in place so you do not scratch walls.
What I do not like about the Miele Polaris
There are two limitations of the Polaris. The first drawback is that
it does not come with standard HEPA filtration. The HEPA filtration is
optional and has to be added to the purchase. Like most Miele
vacuums, you are able to add upgrades depending on your needs.
Secondly, the Polaris has the most basic handle or wand in the Miele
line. The wand is a stainless steel and does extend, but the handle lacks
the comfort and convenience of the deluxe models.
In summary, the S4212 Polaris is an inexpensive, entry-level Miele
canister vacuum. The Polaris operates very quietly, and it has an
expected lifespan of twenty years. It has many of the benefits of
the larger models with several options to upgrade at a later time.
Though the Polaris does not come standard with a HEPA filter it is a great vacuum
for first time Miele buyers.
