Miele Jaxx Upright Vacuum
Reviewed by: Mike with allergies from Tampa Bay Area
The first impression of the Miele “Jazz” vacuum system S7280 is one of quality. The impression is on target, because the construction and design of the Miele vacuum cleaner uses a well-thought-out design using quality materials. The canary-yellow body brings a touch of psychological brightness to the otherwise dull activity of vacuum cleaning.
The head of the Jazz cleaner is slightly smaller than many power heads on canister vacuum cleaners making it able to get into spaces that I previously found were reachable using a non-Miele power head. The cleaning brush bar can reach under many types of furniture and along the kick-plate edges of standard kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The brush combined with the variable speed motor provides adjustable suction with the result that the machine cleans well on different types of carpet. If the motor driving the brush is turned off, the Miele cleaner automatically adjusts its height for other than carpeted floors and rolls smoothly on non-marking rubber wheels.
One of the outstanding features of the Miele upright vacuum is its maneuverability using a swivel system near the power head. The product can reach many areas conveniently with a turn or twist. Because of the quality of the materials used in construction of the Jazz, it is a bit heavier than some other products and some users might find the cleaning operation tiring. I would suggest taking a short break or changing to a cleaning operation using the wand, such as vacuuming curtains, lamp shades, cushions, or similar activity.
When cleaning different materials such as lamp shades, less vacuum pressure is needed to prevent damage to the material. The Miele system features a variable motor speed control to allow delicate materials to be handled gently at considerably less than full vacuum power. The control works very well, and Miele has marked the gradations to indicate the approximate position for different applications.
The Miele cleaning system is sealed and filtered to prevent dirt, allergens, and carbon particles from motor operation from exiting the machine. All filters are easily replaced without tools. The Miele vacuum bags are self-sealing and mark an innovative improvement in handling bags filled with debris I always hated changing bags previously, because the act of grasping and carrying the container to the trash almost always meant a cloud of dust exited from the bag thereby exacerbating my allergies. Gone is that annoyance with the Miele self-sealing multilayer bags.
I use vacuum cleaners primarily for cleaning wall-to-wall carpet, and the self-adjusting carpet level is an appreciated feature. The machine also adjusts automatically when moving to plain floors, but you will want to turn the brush motor off when changing from carpeted floors to plain, non-carpeted areas.
The hand tools and the cleaning wand work well. Unlike some other upright machines, the Jazz is very stable when using the adjustable cleaning wand and tools, so if left upright, it will not fall over while moving around different objects. Unfortunately, I am too lazy to assemble the different parts to clean parrot cages, so I plan to buy a Miele canister vacuum cleaner for that task.
If one is looking for an effective vacuum cleaner that is especially good at handling wall-to-wall carpets, The Miele Jazz is a good choice. I might mention that an appliance rating publication gave high marks to a Miele upright vacuum in this series—the Jazz is a slightly more advanced machine with a HEPA filter included and featuring LED lamps to illuminate the area in front of the cleaner, which I find useful to locate any dirt along cabinet kick-plates, in corners, and under furniture. The Jazz is a product well worth the cost, which in the long run will likely out live more than two cheaper machines.

I've tried Kenmore, Dyson, Shark and Electrolux. Like everything else in life you get what you pay for. While these products were satisfactory at their price point they had issues. Growing tired of replacing them I looked at Miele. The price is how much for a vacuum cleaner? Who would spend this much? Well I did and I really got my monies worth. This is a quality well built machine that will last you 20 years or more. The performance is without equal. Like a BMW the build quality is exceptional. Just buy it and you will have no regrets.

I researched long and hard for a new sweeper. I had a Kirby for about 20 yrs. as was highly recommended however I never used the attachments as they were a pain, having to assemble it all to use and then un-assemble to use the sweeper as "normal" again, so I wanted a sweeper with easy access to attachments along with good suction, a BAGGED sweeper do not like the bagless, ugh! I also wanted a HEPA filter to help with dust/pollens and cleaner air in the house. I love this sweeper as it does all. There is only one drawback, it is a heavy sweeper and by the time I am done my wrist aches. It is more noticeable when I pull the sweeper back and then to go forward etc. but I can put up with that! All the other positive aspects outweigh this issue.. LOVE IT LOVE IT!!
Customer Q & A
Q1: I have a Miele Jazz Power Plus vacuum 1200W. After using it today for 30 minutes or so, the brush roller stopped while I vacuumed. I let it cool down, I made sure there was not blockage anywhere. I started it again and the brush roller will not engage. I realize there is a separate brush roller motor. What happened? Did a belt slip or break?
A: There are a couple things that it could be. You'll need a Torx wrench to remove the bottom plate. Once it's removed, you can better see the brushroll and if anything is wrapped around it. Are you getting any indicator lights to appear on the vacuum? Aside from something being tangled around the brushroll, it could be a clog, but generally if you have something actually clogging the airways, the main vacuum motor the one that produces the suction will only run a few seconds then cut out to prevent overheating and motor damage. The neck opening to where the U bag attaches - it does an immediate U-turn and goes toward the floor after the initial curve, that back panel bottom back of the vac, small plate with two screws, or the hose/handle are the usual suspects when it comes to a clog. It could also be a belt, but I will say, we've sold hundreds and hundreds of these and not had an issue with a belt breaking or wearing. Still, to check, you would again need the torx wrenches. to disassemble the bottom to get to the motor. It's not too difficult, and once the covers are removed, the will be able to see if the belt is broken or not. I had bought the AutoEco for my mother and she was having a similar problem, but her's was two fold. First, she did have a lot of hair and string wrapped around the brushroll, but she also had a clog in the neck. Once she removed those she didn't have any problem since she originally thought it might be the belt. Aside from these things, it could be an electrical issue with either the switch or a connection. Does the brushroll switch still click/snap when you flip it on and off? A local Miele dealer would be able to take the vac apart and determine that fairly quickly.

Miele Jazz S7250 Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The new Miele S7 upright vacuum cleaners offer the
innovation and balance to clean virtually any surface.
Like the top of the line Swing, the Jazz offers numerous conveniences and signature features that have
made Miele one of the premier brands in home care products. With a new swivel-neck design and the powerful
Vortex motor, the Jazz provides unmatched cleaning ability in a more affordable package.
Like others in the S7 lineup, I put the Jazz through several different tests, and here is what I found.
What I like about the Miele Jazz Upright
The versatility of this vacuum is likely its most attractive attribute. What Miele
accomplished with these vacuums was adapting the best features of their canisters into an upright body. With
the Jazz, the ability to effectively clean flooring and furniture, even your vehicle, is bundled in a one package.
The cleaning depth was ideal throughout because of the automatic height adjustment. Unlike other uprights,
there are no knobs, dials or pedals that need to be adjusted to set the height of the brush roll for maximum cleaning depth.
A separate brush roll motor is another example of an additional feature that serves a most practical purpose.
The traditional drawback with uprights has been that on smooth flooring the brush roll throws dirt and debris
instead of picking it up. With the ability to disengage the brush roll and use straight suction, the S7 upright
can clean linoleum, tile, hardwoods and laminate flooring with ease. And the suction from the Vortex motor is powerful
enough that it will even draw in debris without actually have to vacuum over top of it.
The new Swivel-Neck design is simple in design but makes a big impact. Smooth is likely the best term I would use
to describe how it handles. The swivel-neck lowers the center of gravity in these uprights and aides when turning or
cornering around furniture. This feature gives each of the S7 uprights a very nimble feel. With the brush roll engaged,
the easy maneuverability gives you the feel that these vacuums are self-propelled.
Anyone who uses this vacuum will appreciate several other additional features. The large capacity, AirClean dust
bag (the largest featured by any Miele vacuum), is a 9-ply, self-sealing bag. Not only does it capture and retain
allergens but it also makes change and disposal of the bag simple and hygienic. The Hose-Lock stabilizes the vacuum
cleaner while using the 14 ft. crush-proof hose, and the wand is compatible with all Miele attachments (except powerbrushes).
Quiet - I actually purchased an S7 for my mother (she literally has a herd of vacuums that she refuses to throw away, even when they
do not work). The Miele was contingent on mom thinning at least 2 from her herd, but since she had 2 that didn't work any longer, it was an easy choice. She loved the vacuum, and
one of the very first things she noticed was the sound. Compared to her Eurekas and Panasonic she had, the Miele was on
a completely different level. Compared to most vacuums the Mieles have great suction, yet are extremely quiet.
The Jazz also comes standard with HEPA filtration (new HEPA filter has a Timestrip indicator - a big plus since it lacks a filter change indicator), Sealed System, three fully integrated mini tools,
deluxe handle, rotary dial controls, LED brush light and a 55 ft. cleaning radius. Though these are standard features,
they are a decided advantage over comparable uprights.
What I do not like the Jazz Upright
Unlike the Swing and AutoEco uprights, the Jazz is equipped with rotary dial controls instead
of electronic controls. What this amounts to is the difference between pushing a button and turning a
dial for most, not all that significant.
Again, the Jazz lacks a feature that comes standard with the Swing and AutoEco
- the automatic suction setting. Instead of the vacuum
adjusting itself on the fly, as you move to different surfaces you have to adjust the suction setting manually. Unless you were specifically
looking for the automatic suction adjustment, you won't even notice this model lacks this feature.
This unit is more affordable than the upper level of the S7 series, but for some it still may
be outside of their target price range. When considering a Miele S7 upright, it is best to think of it as
an investment. For a vacuum cleaner tested to last for 20 years*, it is hard not to.
Overall, the Jazz is an excellent mid level model in the S7 line of Miele uprights.
They retain most of the features and all of the quality of Swing and AutoEco with less expense. Though it is a bit heavy, for
an upright, the filtration and suction
are second to none, and I would challenge you to find a quieter model available today. Regardless
of which model you choose you will get the best that Miele has to offer.
